Just a thought about posting...

Has anyone thought about how many members of the media may be reading our posts before we post things about the play-calling, disciplinary actions, our reactions to various issues with the team. For all we know, Finebaum could be a member of Tidefans and he is here gathering info to use on his daily "slime" show. I'm not trying to "call anyone out" but you know this is the internet!

Let's play smart!! :)

Just a thought!

And he doesn't even have to be a member to read a lot of this drivel...it does look pretty bad from an outsider's POV...

I know if I was a member of the media, ie sports show host, I would read these boards in an effort to know what the fan base was discussing.

But if we are here to discuss the program, shouldn't we post what we wish to discuss? I come here to discuss a lot of things - and this time of the year, Bama football is #1. I like seeing what others think, even if I disagree. I learn something new every day that I visit this site. To ask people to censure themselves just so others think that we are better fans is silly (IMO).

We are Bama fans. We have come to expect a great deal of our school, teams, and coaches. That is a good thing. If it makes us sound like demanding children at times, so be it.

Now, we should try to word our criticisms so as to avoid personal attacks, but public discourse has a role to play in sports - and internet forums give poor souls like me (over 1,000 miles away) a way to participate...

Finebaum does monitor these boards, or has someone to do it for him because he has repeated, substantially if not verbatim, phrases or ideas that are presented on here in his columns and on his show.

You don't seriously think that he gets it all from his pillow talks with Phyllis. ;)

You have to be able to (1) read and (2) comprehend in order to get info from here.

I love to feel self-important as much as anybody but, I haven't seen anything on this board to indicate a more vivid imagination than the professional sports irritaters we have in the state of Alabama.

WE HAVE ALSO COME TO EXPECT ... THE DISRESPECT OF THE MEDIA, whether it be the print, tv or radio! :p
So since the media is going to write what they want anyway, they always do, in other words they'll put words in your mouth to put in their papers etc., why worry about it!!
I'm getting to old to worry about what people think of what I say! OR DO for that matter!

Not a bad take on the situation. It's pretty easy to say almost anything you want to say on our boards without breaking any of our rules. Bayoutider has pointed it out numerous times, but in many cases it's not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it that we usually have a problem with. For an example see below:

GOOD: "John Brown sure is playing tentatively as our new LB. I would like to see him be much more agressive on the snap and make some more tackles. Hopefully as he gains experience, he'll improve in this area. Coach Jimmy Jones may need to give him some extra reps during practice to make sure he knows the scheme."

BAD: "John Brown ain't worth a crap. Anyone see him miss that tackle that allowed Cow U. to score? If I were the coach, he would never see playing time again. Speaking of coaching, how many times are we going to allow Coach Jimmy Jones to stand there and do nothing to John Brown? I would fire his butt in a heartbeat if he can't do any better than that. Just because we beat Cow U 65-7 doesn't mean I'm ever going to be satisfied...THIS IS ALABAMA after all...we should NEVER be satisfied with anybody for any reason!"

See the difference?

Agreed. I think the thing that I was throwing caution at is talking about individual players that may get in trouble, or matters of student privacy.

The internet is powerful and read by the media. Sports board I would imagne are looked at all the time and used as references with right or wrong. One post can make or break a story and cause problems even if it's not the truth.

We are in the world of instant information.
