What happens if someone enters the portal, doesn't get any offers that he likes, and pulls back out? Does he lose his scholarship? Does he move to the bottom of the depth chart? How long is he in Saban's dog house? What are the repurcussions?

The minute that a player enters the portal, the school has the right to immediately pull all scholarship resources. Depending on the player and school, he could find himself without a scholarship offer from within or outside. It is a risk, to be sure, and many did not get picked up last year.

I wish Bama would opt out of the portal madness. How do you build a culture with this much turnover every year? Yes there have been some nuggets to come our way but overall this team has turned into a revolving door.

The programs that figure out how to use the revolving door that the portal now provides to their benefit while somehow maintaining chemistry and continuity among players on the team will be the winner.
Throw in NIL dollars, this has to be a hair pulling nightmare.

How much of the number of people transferring out in our case has to do with our coaches and inability to keep young players engaged vs. the young players just wanting more playing time? The concern here is we need Sophomores and Juniors in the program. Otherwise we have only Seniors and Freshmen. How do we keep a healthy mix to avoid major drop-off in talent/experience between starters and backups? Not sure if I articulated this well.

I know exactly what you said, and that is a great point, because it will make a difference in team depth. We lost a lot of guys last year. Tyson and Robinson were 2 that I never thought would transfer. I watched Tyson play in HS. Kid could sling it...but he looked lost and seemed to cave when it counted. He never developed even under Sark. Not sure what happened. Not every HS star makes it big. And he was a star.

The transfer portal is making college football the equivalent of a pick up football game in a junior high PE class.
