I forgot about him. Had no idea he had a cut on his intestines in 2015.
His girlfriend wasn't...He was overhyped from the start. However, I always thought he would do well at lower level and had a chance to go NFL, but such is life.
I truly think thats where his problem was. He couldn't separate football and his life with her. To compete at that level takes 100% of your focus. I don't think football got 100% from him.His girlfriend wasn't...![]()
David Cornwell. Another overrated QB.Did he not get into a twitter beef with another former QB prospect, not too long ago?
David Cornwell. Another overrated QB.
The first one I remember was Perry Cuda. I'm sure there were others before him, but back then recruiting didn't take place under the spotlight it does now.The list of over-hyped Bama QB's is quite long. Almost all of them are, including some we wanted but didn't get. Only a small handful have actually lived up to it. But let's not blame that on the player, and there's no point riding them out of town on a rail for it. We've all seen the Bama bump. Kid gets recruited by Bama, and suddenly adds a star, raising expectations. Even if he does not add a star, we all think he should be rated higher and expect more out of him in the process. Even the media creates this myth that every player on the team is a 5 star. Only recently have we seen a trail of true studs at QB. Truth is, much of Bama's history has been made with "decent" QBs who were good enough to play within himself, rally the team around him, and could utilize the talent around them.
Didn’t we have a coach that thought the same about his mom?His girlfriend wasn't...![]()
Terry Davis ran the option better than any Bama QB, the two TD drives against UT in the 4th qtr was a thing of beautyIn my lifetime as an Alabama fan, the best QBs were above average QBs who played on great teams. Pat Trammell, Steve Sloan, Terry Davis, Gary and Jeff Rutledge, Steadman Shealey, Jay Barker, A. J. McCarron, Jake Coker. There were a lot of other QBs I did not list because for the most part they would have all been 4 or 5 recruits coming out of high school using current recruiting metrics.
Hoo boy, that bolded part is a heck of a statement. He did indeed. The Alabama wishbone was a thing of beauty, it was like watching a ballet on the football field. In most games CPB would use 6-8 different RBs and at least 2 QBs. Most of the RBs were also above average talent wise, but were tough and disciplined and they could all block. It was way more exciting than watching today's offenses.
It is difficult to recall them all and more difficult still to rank them. I would suggest we put Richard Todd in there among the wishbone QB's if nothing else for the day he had in dominating the Vols in B'ham. He did manage to start a couple of seasons for the Jets even though it was controversial at the time.In my lifetime as an Alabama fan, the best QBs were above average QBs who played on great teams.
