Chris Low was on the Ryan Fowler show yesterday and the first name he mentioned about possible replacements for the OC position was Dan Mullen
Drew DeArmond mentioned Mullen and Lebby as two names he’s heard has legs. His opinion on Mullen, and the OC in general, is it’s one position Saban would value a good play caller / QB coach over recruiting.

Interior running game

The splits in this offensive system are a big thing to note. Receivers will stretch to the far hashes in almost every formation. It makes it difficult for secondary players to help in run defense. This will allow you to rip off huge runs on the ground game, which also will then make it difficult to keep safeties out of the box which allows you to take shots down the field.

Vertical and horizontal passing attack

In this offense you will see a ton of deep shots as well as tons of screens. The idea is to attack space on the field, so if you make these defenders have to crash down on screens, but also have to be aware of the deep shots. When you’re running it well on the interior it’s difficult to deal with the athletes in space in the screen game. Sometimes it’ll be a swing to a running back, or a screen to the split out wide receivers. Either way everything you do creates conflict.

Just a quick read about Lebby and his offenses, if he is hired I just don't see Saban turning over complete control for him to run anything he wants. The "wide splits" by the OL and WR's being on the outer hashes spread "way apart" sounds more like an air raid pass 70% of the time and run very little.
Isn't the wide splits what UT did to us this year?

I love the concept described in the description of what Lebby does. It would seem to me the better athletes you have the better this system would work.

But I see no reason why those same athletes (with a good OL) couldn't line up inside the hashes (like 4th down or goalline) and bully their way forward.

It would seem if any roster could possibly do both it would be a roster like UA has.

After seeing all the bunch formations and failed play-calling/no imagination I'd love to see us go wide open again like we did with Tua and Mac.

It's time for the offense to be on offense and score lots of points and fear having to face a talented team.

And, it takes some of the pressure off the defense in games when the other offensive team is harder to shut down.

went and looked at their stats for the 2022 season, and they rushed 582 times for 3120 yards versus 406 passing attempts for 3305 yards so it's a lot more run heavy in play execution than you'd think and very balanced from a yards gained standpoint. They just spread the field to create space. Sark and Kiffin did the same thing with the WR splits being out wider so they had more room to work and force the safeties to have to choose either run support or pass support on alignment.

Isn't that interesting! Haynes and Justice would probably love this and I'd think our QBs and wide receivers would love some newfound space in the secondary to exploit.

UT made us look silly this year (insert PG comment) but they did the same thing to just about everybody before their QB got injured.

Offensively I think Bob focused too much on what the defense was giving. Offense needs to dictate the game not respond to it. That means the run game, that means controlled passing, that means spread the D out. that means the "take advantage of what they give" is the distraction, not the goal. remember, if they are giving it, that means that's what they want you to take. It's like when they heard cows and funnel them into the trailer to go to the slaughter house. you NEVER want to do what they want you to do. We should go into the game with items 1,2, 3 and if they scheme to stop them we should have countermeasures for theirs schemes, but the counter measures aren't the game plan, the game plan needs to get back to 1,2,3

This seems to fit the narrative of BY watching and waiting and letting the play clock go down to 1 or 2 seconds.

Then, on top of that, we heard other teams say we were predictable. So not only does it seem we were allowing the defense to dictate we were also tipping off what we were going to do. No wonder our 5 stars looked pretty "normal" at times!

The constant running of the playclock under 5 seconds was a huge red flag that the offense was never in sync.
We should have known it from the Texas game. It took going hurry up at the end to produce the game winning FG. BY was definitely better in hurry up.

And what should also tip us off that BOB struggled with scheming is our scripted plays seemed to be less effective this year at the beginning of games.

So he struggled with scheming, adjusting and dictating!!!

With a young quarterback either Milroe or Simpson it seems like spreading the field and giving them some running lanes would be helpful. Getting plays off quicker so the defense isn’t crashing into our backfield at the snap would be nice too.

People seriously overestimate how much air raid guys pass the ball. Often the running game is really important to those offenses.

I found this breakdown of Lebby's offense. It's an extremely uptempo shoot and veer offense in the Art Briles style.

We have the athletes (RBs and WRs) to do this, but does it take a different OL to make this work. I know the splits that were referenced were in regards to the WRs, but IIRC, it also creates wider gaps between the OLs. That isn't power blocking. That's stretch blocking...

Uthug used splits with their WRs and we know that Huepel is an OU guy.

I dunno, I'm not sure if this will work well in the SEC...
