Let's say Saban went from Michigan State straight to Alabama and he never coaches at lsu. Is lsu still on Bama's schedule for 2024? I don't think they would be.
maybe maybe not. But it certainly wouldn’t be the ratings draw it currently is. However I was responding to pre saban history of the rivalry. It was still a big game on the schedule and there are several classics. I think if Alabama had 3 SEC rivalries it would be Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU. Yes MSU but it’s really only viewed that way through maroon eyes and has more of a baseball rivalry to it.

If there is one game on the 2024 schedule that I would be angry about it would be Georgia and not LSU. The schedule was already loaded.

I just don't think lsu is a true rival. They just coincidentally got put in the same division 30+ years ago. Just think if the had split the SEC into North and South and Bama is in the north and lsu in the south and the game had been played rarely for the last 30 years.

We've played LSU every year for 60 years. I don't view them as the historical rivals Auburn and Tennessee are, but not far behind.

I think you're right in the sense that LSU is not perhaps a true rival since it is not a border rival, but over the years things have made many people consider it to be a rivalry game. Back in 2011 the regular season game was called "The Game of the Century" at the time. Later we won the rematch in the NCG. Many games in the Saban era were broadcast in prime time. Also the fact that both teams schedule their byes the week before the game shows the importance both schools consider the game to be.

I agree with this. It really depends on ones definition of "rival." To me, it means it is someone that can beat you any given year. That being the criteria, LSU is our only real rival. Ucheat is trying to re-establish that with a win against us last year and barney aspires to get back to that but, as it stands, not even Georgia can be considered a rival given that we've had their number 4 of the last 5 times we have played. I'd also argue that LSU has been the more consistent powerhouse school in the SEC behind Alabama. Uga would love that position but they play such a weak schedule I put them on par with Clemson regardless of their recent success.

I doubt they would be if Saban never went to LSU. I don't think LSU would have had any of the success they have had the last 20 years if he doesn't go there and they wouldn't be as big of a draw that they are now. But for the last 20 or so years they have been a rival and things have changed, so it is a game that people expect to see now and that is why they are on the schedule.

I kind of like that we are playing other teams, we have not played too much in the regular season. One thing is for sure, if an SEC team wins the title in 2024, they definitely will have earned it. I think overall, they did a good job making it "even".

both teams don't "schedule their byes" around that game. The SEC makes the SEC schedule. While it is true neither team has scheduled an OOC game on that day that I can remember.

I read with interest that some folks don't view Bama-LSU as a rivalry. To each his own... but I view LSU as a strong rival. I recall as a child in L.A. in the 1950's my Dad and I would listen to LSU games on New Orleans radio. Bama-LSU was special. 'Course, those were the days of Ears and Dietzel so the games usually ended with us saying "Wait'll next year!"
Fact is, if I had to drop one of Auburn, Tenn., or LSU, I'd drop Auburn! Keep LSU & Tenn.

P.S. L.A. of course is Lower Alabama.
