Clean up two penalties and add 8 points to Bama's side of the scoreboard.

Take away two INTs and take away 10 points from the other side.

It's an 18 point swing, all on Alabama's mistakes (and Texas taking advantage - not trying to take anything away from them).

Don't get me wrong - I'm not making excuses or saying that Alabama almost or should have won or that fixing it will be easy.

But if everyone on the team does not put in the mental effort and toughness and discipline to clean it up then it's going to be a down year by Alabama standards.

But if they do put in the effort then things can be much better.

Same goes for the coaches as it does for the players.
I saw an LSU buddy of mine in church this morning, and it seems we're both wondering about how our teams will do this year. His opinion is BAMA is a great team that just needs a consistent QB, and he thinks we'll probably win the rest of our games. He also said he thought Ewers was a great QB who had one of those "games of his life" against us, mainly because Sark had a perfect scheme for the game. I agree that, if we don't roll over and die, we can still have a very special year. The big question - how do we react to this game.

re·sil·ience
/rəˈzilēəns/
noun
noun: resiliency
1.
the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.
"the remarkable resilience of so many institutions"
2.
the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity.
"nylon is excellent in wearability and resilience"

Resiliency is a skill that has to be developed and cultured somewhere down deep.

I hope this team can muster some of it.

Because that's going to be the crucial difference between a successful year and one we'd rather forget.

As in most games, it still comes down to 1) turnovers 2) penalties and 3) play at the LOS (run the ball, stop the run, pressure/protect the QB). And we won really in only one of those areas last night (we pretty much controlled their run game until the last five minutes of game when the defense was gassed).

And yet it was still a two score game,

This is fixable. But it can’t be fixed unless everyone (players and coaches both) decide they want to do the hard work to make it happen. Coaches need to do a better job. Period. And each player needs to recognize that what they “want” is secondary to want the team needs. If that means a change at QB, O-line, D-line, secondary, etc. then so be it.

Right now we have group of really talented players that play football. We don’t have a “team”.

And we need to find it, and soon or this could be a long rest of the season.

Bama QB's have been working out with receivers during summer for years. Buchner also worked out with Bama receivers over the summer. Milroe didn't lose the game. Milroe didn't give up five sacks. Milroe doesn't play D. QB gets too much credit when a team wins and too much blame when a team loses. Milroe didn't make 10 penalties. But he did have two touchdown passes called back due to penalties other Bama players made.
The belief that the defense lost this game is misplaced. 3rd quarter....against Sark...had only scored 13 points. Once the game starts flowing the other way, Texas picks up 3 touchdowns. Our offense could have impacted that had our QB, in conjunction with our OL, could have prevented that. When you become one dimensional, bad things happen...

I'm disappointed.. that's for sure. I've ridden the highs and I've sunk with the lows. It's still Roll Tide!
With that said, my critique isn't just going to pick on Milroe. Is he a question mark going forward, yes. But, after hearing so much talk about this O-Line and how it's the best we've had in years...blah, blah, blah! They as a group are a giant red flag! I hope they can gel and get it together soon. That type of line play won't win us tough games.
As always, ROLL TIDE!
If Latham is our best O linemen like I have heard others say then why isn't he at Left Tackle. Proctor played like what he is, a freshman in his second game.

Respectfully, I feel those of you hyper focused on the QB situation are missing the plot.

I’m sad to think about how Milroe is probably not the answer at QB. I won’t argue he didn’t make critical errors on both interceptions and that he probably got lucky on about three other bad throws.

But Texas routinely got immediate pressure rushing 3 DL! I mean #90 was in the backfield instantly after the snap several times.

Our DL, indeed the entire front 7, got ZERO pressure all night.

And worst of all, the stupid penalties that riddled us the past two seasons were back in full force. I saw the same anxiety and lack of confidence that was supposed to be gone.

To steal a stupid Texas phrase, we are all hat and no cattle. I never felt good about all the talk going on during the off season. We NEVER did that under Coach Saban before the past two years.

You change the QB. I mean I can’t argue that it doesn’t need to happen. But that’s not going to lead us to a championship. Because none of the issues that derailed the past two seasons have been resolved. Not one.

So Rees, as OC, now finds himself in the same position that Golding resided as DC the last few years. He doesn't have any control over his personnel or offensive strategy. Golding didn't have as DC. Daboll didn't have it with Jalen and only got it with the likelihood of losing the NC.

Staff management has been really poor by Saban for awhile. His gameplan box is too small. It took elite OCs in Kiffen and Sark to put a second leg on the dynasty or it would have ended in 2012.
FALSE. Very false. Golding sucks.
Golding was not hampered by anything other than his inept ability to call a defense.

The challenges on offense last night, or Daboll with Hurts are a false equivalency. The biggest reason is there was a clear alternative. Right now, buchner and Simpson are probably a better alternative. Nothing like Tua v Jalen.

And it took the portal to minimize recruiting and NIL to legalize cheating. And now anything goes. 3 years. Wild.

Colorado turned over 90+% if its roster and is 2-0. Bama has 3 of the 6 highest recruiting classes ever on its roster.

it’s because recruiting no longer matters.

if Coach lasts through 24, I’ll be surprised
I'd like to see a QB change before we start saying this is the end. I felt like our playcalling got pretty conservative because we couldn't really trust Milroe to push the ball downfield. It's not the only problem, but our options were limited once they started zeroing in in the run and forcing Milroe to prove he can beat them with his arm. We were able to run the ball until Milroe threw that first pick. Then Texas was like "This is the same Milroe as last year. Let's force them to throw it".

Since pretty much every aspect of the game has been analyzed I'll just mention scheduling. I've said in the past I'm not a fan of scheduling tough OOC opponents. It does no good for a team and can only harm a team. A year ago when we beat Texas it didn't help us a bit during the season. Now we lost and suddenly we must run the table in conference play to make the playoff. I think we should just schedule cupcake OOC opponents early to help the team build confidence and get into conference play undefeated.

How does benching Milroe fix the defense?
Remember way back a long time ago when we had Jonathan Allen, Payne and a whole bunch of other first round draft picks that was on the field for 99 plays against clemson? Remember why? Let me remind you, THE OFFENSE COULDN'T CONVERT A 3rd and 3 to save their lives. Same concept. If the offense can't sustain a drive the defense gets TIRED! not hard to understand.

I can go both ways on this. As a whole the west has been a little down the last few years. A good OOC opponent brings the fans and eyes on tv. I do get tired of those 70-10 ooc games.

Well, the 24 hours of whining and gnashing of teeth are almost over in T-town. I hope everyone down there is ready to get back to work because there is a lot of work to be done. We'll see what happens. Roll Tide!

It drove me crazyyyyy watching our defensive players, trying to strip tackle the ball, instead of form tackling..

Coach Saban used too frown upon it, but, looks like we're teaching that style of defense now & it cost us a lottttt of extra field position to Texas on ST's throughout the game..

Ok & I feel better getting that off my chest..

No matter win or lose I consider it still an honor too being a Alabama Fan..

We're still Alabama & The Crimson Tide will always be among the elite in college football.

We have been doing that strip tackle thing for a few years now. Annoys me. I scream at my TV. "JUST TACKLE THE MAN!"

is it weird we went from all three qbs getting time in the first game to just Milroe this game? Did he win the job and no one said anything?
Almost everybody, apparently including the coaching staff, all bought "MTSU JM is the real JM" and I think the staff went all in with JM.

UTA proved "MTSU JM is NOT the real JM."

I disagree with this, on two fronts really. First, I love big OOC games. Yes, sometimes you lose them, but I love those games. But that's just my personal opinion on scheduling.

More importantly to your argument, though, I don't think we have to run the table to make the playoff. Let's say we lose one regular season conference game and make it to the SECCG where we play Georgia and win. We would be a 11-2 SEC champ. That's getting us into the playoff most likely. I know that there has never been a 2 loss team in the playoff but I remember the discussion that Auburn would make it in 2017 if they had beaten UGA in the SECCG, so who knows. This will be the last year that matters anyway.
