Question: Offensive play calling question

I’ve been wondering this since about game two against Texas, but why are we not calling more RB draw plays, QB draw plays? More screens to RB or TE? Especially on 3rd downs when the defense is pinning their ears back and blowing by our left tackle. I watch LSU and Daniels does this very well and seems to open up their passing game.

Because the OL isn't consistently able to open holes and Milroe struggles with the short to intermediate throws as well as apparently having difficulty scanning the entire field.

The offense as a whole is pretty limited, and it's just something we're going to have to deal with, as it's not likely that much is going to change now that we're more than halfway through the regular season.

This team can beat anyone it plays, but could also lose to most of the teams it plays.

It's weird, it's frustrating, but it is what it is.

Hard to run screens when the OL is 350+ with concrete shoes. Can't answer your question on the draws as it seems most times it should be set up to work with the depth the DL is getting. With screens, it shouldn't matter that JM can't scan the field. There's 1 receiver...but again, if the OL can't move to get in front, it doesn't matter.

Everything starts and ends with OL.
Yea the line is a big issue mostly the LT but I still think QB is our biggest issue.
With a weak line you can usually still run slants, bubble screen, digs, play the flats, and a lot more. All stuff that our QB isn’t effective at but It would take pressure off the OL and help them and the rbs. Let’s face it milroe doesn’t have the accuracy, timing, or the quick release to do any of that effectively consistently. At this point you have no other option but milroe no other qb has experience and we put all our hope on milroe going back to MTSU when we didn’t have a competition. So we are going to live by the deep ball and rarely nice thrown intermediate pass. It doesn’t help the OL that when they give him time and a receiver is open he doesn’t see it and still ends up finding a way to take a sack .

Milroe often doesn't have a clue where his dump off route is....he also never throws to a hot WR when we all see a blitz coming off the edge, he never sees the blitz until its too late.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Everything starts and ends with OL.
I'll also say that Milroe is the most athletic bad running quarterback I've ever seen. With his speed and athleticism, he gets tackled very easily when he decides to run. I don't expect him to be Vick or Lamar Jackson, but geeze, I expected A LOT more of his running ability than what I've seen.

Mostly uneducated football opinion here, but if we can't pass block well enough to get out of the bottom 10 in sacks allowed...and that's just to protect the first guy with the ball...why would adding a second guy getting the ball make it better?

Now, why we can't just lean into the lack of protection and throw a screen over the pressure is a mystery that better football minds than mine can debate. Or maybe that pop pass behind the line JH did so often...something to let our elusive guys get out on the edge and work their magic.

I'm convinced he doesn't have very good peripheral vision. It's just an opinion based on stuff like you are mentioning. He best north south but he's not a east west runner.

I've been trying to figure it out too. When the rush comes it reminds me of a squirrel that runs into the road and panics when the cars are coming at him. He doesn't quite know where to go.

You mean this: (y'all enjoy)

Miss those days. But one of these days....we will miss THESE days. Hard to believe that a team with 31 QB sacks could be 5-1😐 Glad they are...but I would have bet that the OL would not be in that position. Not all those are fault of the OL, but most are. Wonder how the coaches meetings are going? Got to be feeling heat. If they aren't ready to play Saturday, then something will change. Very difficult job CNS has. Got to be all things to all people at all times. Lots of pressure. Where the heck is #11? Tall, fast, and good route runner. Rarely see him catch the ball. Victim of bad schemes?

We dont move the pocket either...starting to think that the OL may be huge but they arent mobile...they are what they are though so I dont see it changing this season. I wonder what the yards are running right vs left? since LT seems to be the Achilles heal.

I am sure you have heard this, but there is a rumor out there that Jalen may be injured and doesnt have the gear right now. All other QBs have disappeared. Seems that it is Jalen....or no one. Not sure if that is true or not, but up to this point it sure seems like it.

Look out for #27 this week. I have an obligation this week and won't be watching the game, so maybe it will be good luck for us.
