I remember watching him get off the plane in T-town in a state of shock that he was actually taking the Bama job. Remember how all pundits were laughing at Bama after the Rodriguez debacle and saying it was irrelevant and living in the past? Then when he took the gig they all swore he'd bolt after just a few years. Well - 17 years, 9 sec titles, and 6 national titles later - the Man is finally hanging it up. Nothing but gratitude to Saban for putting Bama back at the center of the CFB universe and keeping it there through seismic changes to the game.

One things for sure - selling Mercedes and Ferraris will be way more fun that dealing with managing rosters in the age of NIL and the portal. We all know that had to be a major contributor to his decision.

I'll keep quoting him to my students and think of him every time I eat a Little Debbie oatmeal pie.

What a great run by Coach Saban. We are very blessed to have had him for so many years. This makes losing to Michigan hurt even more.

Jumping in briefly as I just heard the news.

Which also means I haven't had the opportunity to review other posts...

I think, deep down inside, many of us saw this coming.

Especially in the last couple of years...

But particularly this year...

The "Saban rules" the NZAA has been implementing over this last decade or so, following the boat-racing of media darling Notre Dame, designed to neuter dominant defenses, and constrain building roster depth, along with out of control NIL, and laughably lax [~non-existent] transfer rules, were the catalyst.

Which, in turn, directly contributed to the imponderable nonsense at the start of this season, where the players chose the starting QB...

I'll never forget when CNS was being interviewed 5-6 years ago during the post-season, when Alabama hadn't made the playoff, and he shared how, as far back as he can remember, he had always been "part of a team".

And that being on a panel commenting on college football amounted to being "part of a team"...

The powers-that-be got what they wanted.

In the words of Teddy Nuge, "It's a free-for-all".

And I hope that, one day, the NZAA pays for their sins, of commission and omission...

Enjoy retirement, Coach.

And I hope you savor every moment of being part of a new team.

On whichever network that might be...

God knows you've earned it...

P.S. If you can't beat 'em, change the rules...

P.S. 2 Okay so, not as briefly as I originally thought... 😐
