Who is Saban's replacement?

I mean the plane from Athens could’ve been a semi blank check for Schuman to come help out and possibly take over if Kalen doesn’t work out.
Exactly why I'm not speculating (or worried). At this point, getting worked up or worried over the hire - when none of us (or anyone outside of the AD) knows anything - is silly.

And some folks are posting things that will make them look incredibly foolish when their 'disaster' hire comes in and does a fantastic job.

idk. I think a lot needs to be made on who he brings in. A great deal of recruiting falls on the staff.

Ryan may be gone to Texas. But it is what it is

Our defensive players… Deboer runs a different style defense so it’s probably expected that we lose a good bit. But hey who knows.

Yea I agree. Who he brings in/keeps will definitely be big.

we are not discussing Harsin, I brought him up only as reference to what happens when a coach is an Average recruiter but a good football coach. That works in other places where talent level is about the same anyway, it doesn’t work in a conference that provides about 30% of the NFL draft.

My point was that his first real recruiting class was torpedoed by a bunch of boosters after the IB. So it’s kinda hard to make the comparison between him and Deboer.

Let's face it, Byrne has kept an amazingly tight lid on this operation. It might just be exactly as he said at the start. We're all dying to know, but I think the thing to do here is ignore the tweets and media clutter and wait till he tells us something. Then we can be happy/sad/angry/depressed.
The Washington cancellation is a significant event, whether it’s significant to the Alabama coaching search remains to be seen. It is an interesting coincidence.

Nervous about today, Deboer would be a disaster of a hire imo. Still have hopes for Sark or Kiffin but who knows at this point.
I really don't know much about Deboer, realizing some concerns about some weakness in recruiting. If he turns out to be out next coach, we owe him our support until he proves otherwise. However, I do like Sark and Kiffin, realizing they have issues too. No coach is perfect, but the positive with these two is that they could hit the ground running without any serious drop off in the overall program.

Every clown has won ten games at Alabama, I don’t think the first guy after the greatest coach of all time is going to be any different.

I've been really quiet for a while around here. Just still dealing with work things and overcoming the loss to Michigan. Heck of a game, and I wish it had gone our way.

Irregardless, win or lose, I believe Coach was on his way out. It was becoming obvious as an observer who pays attention to tone and body language. The job has changed, being a head coach. Pays a lot more today than ever before, but you deal with things that coaches didn't have to, even 5 years ago, which was imperfect as well. Now, in the face of a changing conference, a quickly changing landscape for all of college sports, and the constant spotlight at a place like Alabama, it's not for the faint of heart.

So, when Coach announced he was leaving, "surprise" wasn't my initial emotion. It was coming eventually. But, sadness for sure. A legend is leaving, and we all knew the day would eventually come. The replacement? Who knows....

We all have our favorites, and I've been through this before. Curry. Stallings. DuBose, when I was a student at the Capstone. Then the parade of "Mikes" began when Franchione ran off. But all that was over 20 years ago, and the sport has changed.

In my only editorial here on the matter, let me just say that Alabama is not a place for a first-timer. It's not a place to "learn on the job". The guy has to have proven success. There are few of those men right now. Dabo Swinney, while not my favorite choice, is the only other guy currently coaching who shows that. DeBoer has won a lot at lower levels, and nearly pulled it off just this week at Alabama's level. He would be my number 2. Not Sark, not Kiffin, not really anyone else. Brian Kelly has consistently fielded good teams, but I don't see us being able to pull him out of Baton Rouge, and frankly, me personally, I just don't like him. So, not my favorite choice, but Dabo Swinney is the closest level of success that I can find who would be a fit for the ultimate job in college football. DeBoer is my number 2. Kiffin is the guy who likely gives a lot of flash to the program, but I don't think that's really needed, and X's and O's still matter on both sides of the ball. He's not strong there.

Beyond that, start thinking of NFL guys NOT named Carroll or Belicheck.

This is Josh Pate in a nut shell and why I have stopped watching his videos as often as I use too. So tired of the "I have connections and know things but can't talk about it". Honestly, there are posters here that do the same thing and its annoying. If you do know something but can't say then just stay quite. Otherwise, I have a hard time believing people like Josh Pate have the connections they claim. I think it is all a smoke screen to make them feel important and get clicks.

Same goes for all the ESPN and media guys throwing names at the wall. All of them were 100% sure it was Lanning until it wasn't. Dude didn't even get an interview and yet the world was sold that he was already hired. The media is not as well connected as they like to claim.

And a lot of them have. We have (more than many on this board realize) posters and admins who have contacts within the program who at one time would drop some information on the board that legitimately came from an inside source they have. They did this to bring the board more value to the end user, trying to be helpful, but also not wanting to put too much on a public forum that could put their connection in jeopardy.

However, as with most things that have more than one person involved, situations can literally change in minutes and sometimes seconds, and when it does, and what they posted changes, and doesn't play out exactly how they described, they get crucified for it on here. So, over the years these people simply keep it to themselves. We have one or two who still drop info from scrimmages here and there, but trust me, there are a lot more members who have true information but choose not to disclose it anymore. So they are staying quiet...

To be clear DeBoer is far from my nightmare coach. He's been successful everywhere and is clearly a good coach. He's not my top choice but my top choices were never coming.

I just have some short term concerns. I think long term he'll probably be pretty good here especially if he is thoughtful about his staff.

He runs a 4-2-5 nickel, which is what we run more than 75% of the time, with the rest being Dime. It's very similar in alignment at least. Likely not quite as complex from a secondary and coverage standpoint...

Like I said… this was never going to be unite the fanbase hire. It was going to be some guy that Bryne has had his eye on as a potential successor for some time and was not going to be a who’s who of coaching.

In a way I’m happy that Bryne went outside the Saban discipleship of coaches because until very recently their success looked more like the Belichick of coaching. I think new blood isn’t exactly a bad thing because of all the decades we lived under the Bear boys it probably costed us more championships because of trying to replicate him.

Anyways I think the key is to be patient and allow the new coach to build a staff and make a team. I think we are still going to be one of the best teams in the country in 2024. I don’t foresee the mass exodus that many are fearing. So be patient and supportive is all we really can do at this point. Because we really don’t know if it’s a home run or a foul ball at this point
