Looks like Wommack is the man.

Oh, and here's Simone Eli.

That's wild. I just asked a buddy on Sunday whether Wommack could be the Bama DC one day if the USA gig didn't work out.

I have been impressed with the guy doing more with less over at South Alabama. (being a Mobile resident, we get a lot of South news around here, even if we're not necessarily fans)

Whomever recruited Simone got a real 5 star................

I’ve seen some grumbling (not here so much) about DeBoer hiring people familiar to him, but let’s keep in mind CNS’s early hires. Kevin Steele as DC didn’t blow anybody’s socks off, and neither did promoting Kirby in 2008. I remember us here having a lot better choices that we thought would be better than a first time DC.😂 Most of us thought that was a big mistake after 2007.
I also remember us being pretty underwhelmed with a West Coast guy from Fresno St named Jim McElwain in 2008. He wasn’t from the south and had no connections to the area. Would his offense work in the SEC and could he recruit, we pondered?
We also had a guy that was a QB coach at Temple and Pittsburgh named Curt Cignetti that we’d never heard of that was going to be trusted to coach our WRs. That guy has been a HC since 2011 and has a 119-35 record as such.🤷🏻‍♂️

My point is to say that this coaching staff is wayyy more well known than Saban’s early staffs. If DeBoer is the coach we hope he is, he will have a list of guys he’s kept up with over the years just like CNS always has. I don’t think familiarity is a bad thing, especially in the beginning. If these guys are really good, he’s probably going to be hiring replacements for them in a few years anyway.

I would much rather see DeBoer hire great coaches over great recruiters in the beginning, because recruits are going to come with a lot of wins!

If Saban had hired this projected staff, people would be excited.

Its the dread of the portal that got folks down. But players leaving was going to happen regardless. We will see how well they can re recruit some of those guys over the next few weeks.

You know, I bet they are on it as we speak....................and Saban is probably helping

UPDATE...

We've put Kane Wommack in bold as it appears he will officially surrender the head coaching position at the University of South Alabama and accept the defensive coordinator position at Alabama.

What isn't yet clear is whether Wommack will have a position to coach in addition to being defensive coordinator. Kevin Steele most recently did not. We expect Wommack to coach a position, probably inside linebacker.

You can probably remove Glenn Schumann, Jim Leonard, Jesse Minter, William Inge and Phil Parker from the tracker now. Robert Bala also looks like a long shot now unless either he or Wommack were assigned the outside linebacker spot, at which point D.J. Durkin would be left without a position.

We're also curious as to how this will affect Chuck Morrell, who was expected to join the staff as co-DC and safeties coach at one time. It does not appear that Wommack will be splitting DC duties with anyone.

Karl Scott remains a possibility to come to Bama as a secondary coach, even without the DC tag.

Even aside from the CNS comparison, this is a guy coming off a national title game appearance bringing key coaches from that staff with him. Why wouldn't we want him to do that? Especially from the offensive side of the ball, where they were particularly dominant?

This! The guy had Washington in the title game, the same Washington team two years earlier had a sub .500 record!

Ballou retained as well. Not a shock as he and coach have worked together before.

In ANY profession, particularly in senior level management and leadership positions, over the years you accumulate associates and subordinates that you know to be good at what they do. Bringing known and trusted staff with you is common and should be expected in most any field.

Now

Rumor is that Ryan Williams was at Bama yesterday for an unofficial visit and was at the team meeting last night.

And if he has ANYONE around him with walking around sense they'd advise him to at least listen (which seems like he is) and look at what WR's do in CKD's offenses. Show him Washington's wr's the two years CKD was at UW and say "That's what you'll be playing in".

Use the "selfish player" dynamic to our favor. "You want the ball, you want big numbers? This offense will get you that".

The new DC was not on that national title team. For many fans, he seems an odd and unproven choice. His South Alabama team looked good defensively, but still seems uncertain. I'm gonna trust in CKD's choice here. He knows Wommack, I don't.
