Don't think it is specfically about Downs or any other player but the current system being totally out of control.

It was out of control before Downs/Proctor and when we take players from Washington or the next school who loses their coach or when the next portal window opens it'll be out of control then.

Nothing has changed except but a bunch of fans measuring their happiness on what a couple of 18 years are doing.

Bama will be just fine and I say that admitting CD is a great player. Meh on Proctor.

Vincent Holmes Washington player and number 8 safety in 2023 class just hit the portal. Could be a guy to help with loss of Downs.

Nothing personal to you @Bpilktree but we will rob Peter to pay Paul when it's taking someone else's star player.

A bunch of people (not you, but in general) need to back away from the ledge about what's happening today.

This is the state of affairs whether we like it or not and we'll get some replacements in time thru the portal that will soften the blow in some areas of loss and also some who will make us a lot better in some areas of weakness.

Man, I'm excited about the future!!!

The one thing to remember here is that every team still operates under the 85 limit for scholarships (or less if on probation). It’s not like every one of these players that have hit the portal will even find a D1 school. Granted, some will have the room and some will figure out how to make the room for guys like Proctor and Downs, but many of these guys will end up hurting themselves by ending up a a place they didn’t necessarily want to be.

I think it’s a bit harsh/hyperbolic/dismissive to say people are measuring their happiness on what a couple of 18yr olds are doing. I mean presumably everyone here is a fan of college football and Alabama football in particular. If we weren’t we wouldn’t be here. All of the players are 18-21 years old. So everyone here is invested in what a bunch of 18-21yr olds are doing. It is completely reasonable for fans of a team to be disappointed when several of that team’s top starters and players are bailing on the program. Or in your words, be disappointed over decisions that some 18-21yr olds are making in regards to the team. Framing this as though it is pathetic to be disappointed or upset over several key players leaving the team with no known replacements because they are 18 is a bit much, imo. Literally everyone here cares what some 18yr olds are doing.

Tell me where it is fair were teams who have a coach who retires,fired, quits,etc... player's on these teams have 30 days to transfer and other teams can poach where teams like Bama have to wait till after spring to get a transfer? Also these kid's are chasing the money, I'm surprised about Downs because his family has always been about commitment, money ruins everything

That's fine. I just offered my opinion. And yes I care cause I'm a fan, but what can any of us do? More importantly, in the big scheme of Alabama this is just a bump on the road. Despite what people say about losing interest I know what everybody will be doing next Aug. 31.

Nothing has changed today except two key players entered the portal. The level of anxiousness didn't just suddenly arise separate from that. That's the context of my post. Again, just my opinion. RTR brother!

Wow! There are going to be some that just can't handle the 3 or 4 loss seasons that we are about to experience. As long as we are able to make the playoffs and compete, then I'm good. I doubt there will ever be anything that makes me not want to be a Bama fan!

Nobody wanted to see Downs go. I'm just trying to lighten the mood a little. If the Good Lord wills the 30 day portal will close, we'll pick up some replacements in time from other teams and we'll field a great team next fall!

We have a window to get some Arizona, Washington, USA, Buffalo players. If Harbaugh leaves, then Michigan.

In Fairness, 247 claims he will be worth millions of dollars in the portal. If he goes to Georgia, he will be going back home and to a program very similiar to Bama’s. Tough to pass up an opportunity to be a multi millionaire and be at the same level you were with the same opportunities. If he does leave though, he is one of them, not one of us. Don’t let the door hit you.
