How much of a difference do you think it makes? I mean there are some sure fire highs and sure fire lows, but as long as the majority is high threes through high fours coaching can make a huge difference.

High school football has come a long way since that saying originated.
Nope - every player has a max genetic capability unique to them. Having a greater degree of higher rated players means you've just got way more potential - period. Coaching can get the max from a player, but their max is still their max, and some players floors are simply higher than others ceiling. it's better to play the odds and make sure the floor is higher...

There simply isn't a perfect dividing line between how much talent you need to have and the amount of coaching it takes to contribute to high level success. If it were just talent then we should have had four to five more national titles. If it were just coaching we still should have had four to five more titles, because we've been considered to have the best of both for over a decade and a half.

I highly doubt that going forward we're going to have teams filled with 3 star recruits with some 4 stars here and there. I highly, highly doubt that. I see us consistently being in the top 10 in recruiting and I see this staff developing more of the talent closer to the players and teams full potential than what we've witnessed in the last several years. Like I said in another post, the cracks in the program started showing several years ago and the "lack of development " drum was banging loudly on this board and rightfully so.

A coach doesn't accumulate the career record CKD has and not know how to win at a high level. The guy WILL WIN and if you read up enough and listen to enough to others who are closer to the coaching circles than the average viewer, you'll learn the word "relentless" comes up a lot when describing how he coaches and prepares. This ain't Mike Shula folks and ice cream machines aren't coming back.

I hope we get a few good transfers from the portal soon however, we will have to wait until spring is over and the portal opens up to all players to fully see how things will shape up for next year. I am sure that there are a number of very good players that would love the opportunity to play at Bama with the resources, coaches, and fans that we have. Often times where there is adversity, there is also opportunity. Hopefully, many in the incoming class can contribute quickly. They will certainly have the opportunity.

How many championships has that gotten Alabama? I can tell you what it has gotten, the most penalized teams in Saban’s career have come with the greatest accumulated talent of all time on the roster. The most underperforming teams of Saban’s career have been the most talented.

I think Deboer needs to develop an Alabama culture instead of focusing on stars. I get the feeling that CNS kinda let things slip over the last few years and it just exploded this year. There is a reason that many former Bama players are calling these guys out in particular.

Michigan and Washington had far less nfl talent than both Alabama and Texas.
There is a projection that Michigan will have as many as 16 players drafted this year. They had talent.

We pretty much have the best of everything in Tuscaloosa. Everyone worried about it being " just " about Saban is wrong. We will dip a notch in recruiting for a year or two, but we will offset that with a hunger by our new staff. Deboer said it ,"Bama is the standard." He ( and the rest of the coaches ) came for the opportunity to consistently compete at the highest llevel. Deboer left the team in national championship game...left to come to a place he can consistently get to that game. Recruiting will still be good enough to get us to the championship games.
I'm disappointed in shortsighted players. I'm disappointed in the greed. However, I'm encouraged by the determination of those that have stayed. Hopefully, those aren't just words, as we heard the last few years. I think there will be a new energy on the team that only a change will bring. What goes around comes around. In a couple of years we will return all these portal attacks on those who have raided us. Bama has always, always paid back the attacks on our program.

Guys in truth many of these guys were going to leave anyways. Aside from Downs and a few others it really didn’t matter if Doeber was the coach or Saban was the coach. It was happening.

Look I gotta lot of flack for saying there were locker room issues. You are seeing it right here. There were alot of drama behind the scenes. We really won a SEC championship because we were just more talented than 90% of the competition we faced. This team really wasn’t that close and together like many wanted to believe.

I’ll say this. Aside from Downs I’m not terribly shocked by any of this. But I’ll tell you this… 2024 has the potential to be a team that truly can shock some folks.
It was painfully obvious there was a major problem as we watched the USF game. If you had eyes, you couldn't deny it but many, many people just thought USF was evidence JM was just so much better than the guys behind him, particularly Simpson AND not that this team was an emotional, undisciplined mess. The crack in the team was already showing.

But then when Buckner earns the start and literally looks hapless, it became even more obvious something was off with the mentality of this team.In what world does CNS start the 3rd QB???

I mean, it was obvious when it was happening and in latter games we needed the arrival of the "complaint thread" because it was so obvious this team was broken on so many levels and this was after JM was given full control and we changed the offense just for him.

How many championships has that gotten Alabama? I can tell you what it has gotten, the most penalized teams in Saban’s career have come with the greatest accumulated talent of all time on the roster. The most underperforming teams of Saban’s career have been the most talented.
Yeah, as they say, hindsight is 20/20. We saw it when it was happening but it's now come full circle.

Nothing can tarnish CNS's tenure at Alabama short of some Joe Pa type of scandal, but it is pretty amazing how we watched the emotional and mental unraveling of the most disciplined team in the last few years after witnessing the greatness we saw from 2009 to 2020.

Coming from a former player, this is unnecessary and potentially damaging. Very disappointed in MH choice of words here.
I think we are fooling ourselves to think guys from some of CNS's early teams wouldn't have done the same thing under today's circumstances.

It's why I refuse to blame this on the kids. They are just the ones stuck in the middle of something NONE of us understand (unless you've been offered big time $$$ when you were 18-22).
