NIL question — Is Alabama Behind on NIL?

You can also buy merchandise from the collective, if you can't do the subscription (which starts around 18 a month, 5 for students) or you can directly pick a player and buy a jersey, or lank shirt, or other item. Thats actually a great way to say thanks to some of the guys whove stuck this whole thing out.

Not that my 2 cents (literally) matter, but under no circumstances will I be buying a “LANK” shirt…

Georgia doesn't pay alot either and look what they have built. You have to find a good medium pay a little to be semi competitive but this has to be a spring board to make big money in the nfl keep em hungry. Deboer/ morgan have made it known they will basically recruit the same way minus coach Saban. Money was the issue on almost all transfers that's why they didn't end up at Georgia. I want us to win of course but it will be even better for the game if we can win without the high priced mercenaries.

We were going to but one if Alabama won it all to support that group of guys. But they didn't prove anyone wrong, and then half of the guys behind it abandoned their teammates. In the end, the "Naysayers" were right. The whole brand is worthless now.

For me LANK now produces very negative thoughts about that team.

Alabama NIL is probably decent but not to be compared with the big money programs.

We have been living in an era of the "Saban Dividend", in which players (the kind of players we want) are willing to defer a proportion of the NIL they could have gotten elsewhere in order to maximize their lifetime opportunities - because of the proven personal growth and achievement under Saban.

Obviously that is no longer the case. It is no negative reflection on DeBoer that he is not Saban, and some players have tested the portal and presumably found that they are being "underpaid". I expect DeBoer to need to do more with less, for the foreseeable future.

Actually looking at the guidelines I don’t see any prohibitions on university employees contributing to an established NIL cooperative. They just can’t start one or have any ownership stake in them.

I see this sentiment on here quite a bit now, but I just want to say "wow." That team gave us many a victorious Saturday and ruined the day for many bitter rivals throughout the season. They went undefeated in our conference and dropped two close ones to playoff teams and now we want to disavow them because they didn't go all the way?

I'm filing that kind of talk under the category of "folks who never wanted or liked Milroe and want to say 'see, I was right' because we didn't finish on top." As for me, I'm proud of this team's grit and felt they represented the university well. They racked up a bunch of dubs and took home the SEC championship too. What's not to love?

I may have missed it somewhere, but when NIL money is referenced for a player, is it a package in that amount for his college career or is it per year?

I was pulling for Milroe as hard as anyone here. This has nothing to do with Milroe. He stayed. In so doing, he has earned my respect beyond his play on the field. But so many of the guys who were a part of that left.

I also hate the acronym that they chose. I never use the "naysayer" word, and never will. I am not buying merchandise with it.

To be fair, that was probably the only "N" word that they could come up with that fit the narrative...

(No innuendo intended.)

Wait wait wait. Hold on. We are now asking students to pay fellow “students” money to play football? Seriously? This crap is out of control. If I was still a student, that would just be an insult to my dignity. I pay all this tuition money, I pay for books, food, dorm, etc and you are going to ask me to also chip in to pay my supposedly fellow students to be students at my school? I’d tell them to get bent.

I like college football and love the Tide, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to stuff dollar bills in some kid’s pocket because he plays football and I want him to pretend he likes me and my school. No other sport operates like this or asks such things of fans. Talk about a fleece job.
Ha! They can add it to their student loan costs.

I admit to having very little info on how NIL is handled by the schools, and player. Not to mention the folks providing the cash. My question is, aren't contracts involved? If so, why wouldn't a school/entity be able to lock up a payer for 3-4 years If you enter the portal you have violated your contract. This is how the real world work with contract employment/services.

The NIL seems very imbalanced to the player right now. I am not one who thinks scholarship athletes should be paid. But, that ship has sailed as we enter the professional minor league phase of college football.

The real future for us purists is DII and possibly the G5. The future will be rocky as the present NIL is not sustainable.
That is part of the problem. In theory a recruit cannot be induced to sign scholarship by including an NIL package. A signed contract before the fact would make that illegality obvious. What is sometimes happening is that promises are not being followed through. I believe the UF QB who was promised a huge NIL that fell through is leaving for that reason. It is a wild west with no rules.

Ummm, you realize it does not stand for Naysayer, right? At least, the kids have never thought for a second that it did. My son laughed when he heard that Boomers really believe it stands for Naysayers.

I’m honestly surprised that they are getting away with selling it.
