I don't see Kelly leaving LSU if the Michigan job comes open. He's put too much work in a short amount of time at LSU to then basically start over. Michigan is going to be bone dry once Harbaugh leaves. Factor in the assistants he takes with him then add in all the seniors leaving and early draft-entry players. That would be a three year set back for Kelly

Idk why anyone would leave LSU for Michigan

I would think Saban's retirement pleased all of our rivals, but UT only beat us once during his 17 year tenure, and that was with A LOT of highly questionable calls. I do not blame officiating very often because I know it is a tough job, but that was the worst game I have ever seen when it comes to officiating affecting the outcome. That's it. That was their only win. They rushed the field against a rival. How embarrassing that must be. They celebrated all night and threw goal posts in the river. I can't imagine how they will react if we win in Knoxville next year.
I'm like you, I rarely blame officials for a loss but that game is a definite exception.

I would not be surprised if Kelly goes to Michigan that LSWho doesn’t go after Norvell. Then you will have had 4 of the top 5 teams this last year dealing with new coaches and transfer portal exoduses.

Lots of teams have started to have a lot more vetting of coaches and plans in place ready to go because of the fallout of Alabama and Washington. Schools know now through backdoor channels if they have any shot at a coach. Schools can’t afford to search once a coach leaves, they have to prepare for him leaving or they will get left behind.
Man, it would be hilarious if Norvell would leave, and then all the Bama players would come back, lol

Less pressure. B1G money.

I have a coworker and former teammate that informed me of the CNS decision 2 days before it happened. His brother is a highly respected high school coach. When I say highly respected, CNS and Mrs Terry sent flowers to their fathers funeral. I’ve said all of this to say: his brother informed him that the new staff has made it perfectly clear that if you enter the portal, there’s no coming out and returning to Bama. RTR

He also maybe the player who helps the rest of the defensive players learn the system faster and it not take a full season and three to four losses to boot.
This. It’s no coincidence that they’ve brought in a Washington player for each offensive group and defensive player from South AL. These coaches know many times players can respond to other players more so that coaches when trying to learn everything, and where the coaches have limited time in the spring to install things, the players have no such limits. Our new staff know what they’re doing.

Agreed - not talking about any specific player, but if you commit then you stop shopping. If you keep shopping, you are not committed.

When I last changed jobs, I agreed to accept an offer from my next employer. When I told my current employer that I was leaving, we talked about the new position. They asked if they could make a counter offer to keep me. I immediately thanked them and told them that I had already given my word so would be leaving. I was not legally obligated to either company, but I had given my word. I had made a commitment. My word - my honor - have value, at least to me.
I’d seriously like the recruiting services to come up with a different word for the current state of a process that makes a mockery of the definition of commitment. Just say they’re tentative or something to that affect. Stop pretending like anyone is committing to anything in college ball these days.

I think most do it to “save a spot” at a school they feel would be a great choice while still looking for whatever they think is better. It’s a fall back strategy.

Interesting thought for sure, especially on the offense side.

On D, I think 70% of what the new coordinator brings in will be quite similar in concept to how we ran our nickel defense (which was over 85% of the time anyway) with different terminology and some level of simplification, so it's not as big of a shift as the offense.

Larry Coker at the U in 2001 is the only one I can think of; but if you were born after 1996, yeah, you might not have seen it ;) ...
Dennis Erickson won the national title during his first year at Miami in 1989. I remember that one well b/c I was at the Sugar Bowl when Miami beat Alabama 33-25 and then won the title.

I will go ahead and say it. As of today we are not in the National Championship hunt. Before I get burned at the stake read I said as of today.

We just lost the greatest coach ever, we hired in a good coach, he put together a good staff on paper, he has done the best he can do about transfers outgoing and incoming so far.

As of today, I would only put 3 or 4 teams in the national championship conversation. They have the coaching, staters, depth, and continuity of everything to earn that as of right now.

I would note that it's a 12 team playoff now, and incidentally, we just hired a coach with a surfeit of multi-round playoff experience.

Regarding Harbaugh's departure opening the portal for Michigan players, given the number of graduations and early pro options, I don't know that Michigan has much of a roster to pillage. Bama had talent piled up. I've not heard that about Michigan. Has anyone looked to see which Michigan players would be an upgrade from Bama's current roster?
