Throwing the receiver open would probably solve 90% of Jalen’s issues. That one change would open up the playbook and make it easier not to call 3 verts all the time. Plus the ball would be out sooner be less of a need to work the pocket.
That's not something that can be taught though. 95% of college QBs can't do it. Not even every NFL guy can do it.

My take (copied and pasted from the Post-game thread):
1. Playcalling: in constantly harped on us continuing to run 4 verticles. Why we did this with the pressure they were bringing just doesn't make sense!
Maybe the staff knows Milroe simply won't or can't throw the ball short, so they call long pass plays since that's his preference anyway. I honestly don't know.

These plays have routes at different parts of the field. I posted three pics of plays Murray broke down and all three have receivers at a minimum of two other field levels. It is up to the QB to make the read to the best option. It appears in a lot of these "vertical" routes there is a trailing receiver slipped in behind the verticals, be it a TE or RB. This makes sense because if the verticals aren't open it means the trailer is there for a potential checkdown.

If this stuff isn't cleaned up we could lose to UGA, Tennessee, Missouri, and LSU in Death Valley won't be a cakewalk.
As of today, UGA and Tennessee are guaranteed losses. Things can change, but it's hard to see us winning BOTH of those games, if one. I don't think LSU is very good, but since when has that mattered? I don't know if we can go 10-2 right now. I think 10-2 will fairly safely get us into the playoffs, but I just don't see it right now.

I posted that before I read your post with the pics, and you're absolutely right. It's as I have been saying the entire time, he's making the wrong reads.

Right, because JM doesn't see the open guy earlier doesn't mean it's not there. He's constantly 1-2 seconds late throwing the ball.

In 2 seconds a WR can run 15-20 yards. That's one reason it looks this way on replay.

It's really going to bother me if Julian Sayin is up in Ohio slinging dimes all over the place and maybe our current #2 is doing the same thing for another team.
To me, losing Saying was...what it was. He never actually played here. Losing Ty would be devastating since we spent so much time developing him and watching him play for us. Seeing him succeed for another program would be so much worse than Saying IMO.

I wish more people like Murray would spend time breaking down his film. They would have to see his horrible mechanics and more often than not, incorrect reads.

We have been here before. Got a hot mess on our hands for sure but we really needed a game like this to put things in perspective for this new staff. Better it happens in week 2 so we can work on it. Give the Bulls their due. That group came to play.
They did. Still, it's hard to be excited about this season when we were supposed to have this elite offense, yet we were only 1 point ahead of a G5 team deep in the 4th quarter...at home...on the night that we officially unveiled Saban Field. Not great.

I can't say where I heard this, but I was told in confidence that Ty has told CKD he's planning to be a big part of things in the future.

I hope that's true...doesn't mean it'll happen, but it might suggests we'll have some QB experience when JM leaves, which I assume will be this year.

We have no one beyond TS who has taken a meaningful snap (and TS has taken only a few).

If for no other reasons, I'd sure like to see TS getting some reps in games that still matter OR at least running with the 1s in games that are in the bag.

Ty should have gotten at least one series against USF, and I mean when the game was still close.

I kept thinking the same thing, basically the whole 3rd quarter.

Ty's strength, in what little we've seen, is being able to hit some quick hitters, which is what the Dr. should have been ordering up on Sat. night.

But, I also understand, that when it was 14-13 there was also no room for error and one tipped pass and and house call and we go behind.

It would have been a tough call.

Agree 1000%, this game was NEEDED if for no one else than the coaches. This was a great reality check of where the team is and where they need to go. If anyone on the staff was under the impression the team was on a good learning progression they were quickly snapped into reality Saturday night. Which is a good thing. My guess is the intensity gets ratcheted up this week in the film room and on the field, as it should be.

So, the same issues remain with JM: reading the defense and picking the right option at game speed. It's not his arm or his athleticism; he just cannot process the game quick enough under pressure. More frustration is ahead, as even after months, the same issue is still there. It can't be fixed in the season, nor apparently out of the season.

Ty's very first snap against WKU proved he can handle a free blitzer.

Take away the crappy Oline play and we would have scored 60 on them, even with Milroe's issues. The moment we took #75 out and #52 came in we scored three times in a hot minute.

I agree. We'll never know if another current QB could have handle the blitz better. I understand it's not fair to Milroe to say "Tua, Mac, or Bryce would have torched the blitz", but it's just the reality.
