Selfishly, I'm happy cause I love him and love to watch him play. If not my favorite Bama player, he's right up there in the top 5 for sure.

But I hope this is the right thing for him. Only time will tell.
If he's really going to do this.....I hope someone tells him to watch Tom Brady and Peyton Manning tape.....he has to absolutely limit the hits he takes.

I'd love to see him and Waddle win a Super Bowl (as unlikely as that is). But if he takes another shot to his neck or head or falls and bangs his head on the ground again....I pray to God he can get up.

Dolphins have placed Tua on IR. He will be out a minimum of four games.
I am not a fan of a wife telling a husband how to handle the family business, because that is his responsibility., but I hope she pushes tua toward retirement. Women have sometimes a better view of the situation. You have me and we have our children. We will be fine.

Tua is my favorite athlete of all time, in any sport. I became a full fledged Dolphins fan because of him. It really is a shame that jinuries have played such a role in his career. If not for the injuries at Bama, he's likely considered one of the greatest college QBs of all time, and Nick Saban probably retires with 8 nattys. There is no doubt in my mind that a fully healthy Tua wins that LSU game in 2019, and the national championship, and then everyone would be talking about 2019 Bama as they do 2019 LSU.

Then of course there's what has happened in the pros. It's his decision, and his alone, so I'm not gonna sit here and tell him that he should or should not retire, but if he does come back, he probably needs to abandon the idea of being a mobile QB. I still don't understand why they thought it was a good idea for him to cut 15 pounds so he could be more mobile. If he does return, he needs to regain that weight, and stay in the pocket. He gets the ball out so fast that he can negate a good amount of injury risk, but he doesn't need to be running like he did at Bama. Those days are unfortunately behind him.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
He may look back and regret this decision. He already has enough money to retire comfortably and keep relatively whatever good health he has left for the foreseeable future. Compared to keep playing, racking up more hits, and someone having to feed him at 50

If there's any "good news" in this concussion case it is that it was 100% self-inflicted. All the others were hits he took when he hit the ground that were somewhat out of his control.

This time Tua initiated the contact and THIS IS WHAT HE HAS TO CONTROL in the future.

He'll get hit as a QB, but he can't be one doing the hitting EVER AGAIN if he wants to keep playing!

Assuming that, when the time comes to look back, he retains the ability to do that.

I hope Tua’s decision works out for him.
Agreed 100%.

If I were in his shoes, I would have decided differently. I don’t understand the logic of how he arrived at the conclusion he drew.
Also agreed 100%, though I doubt either of us have suffered the brain trauma Tua has. At this point, I think it's reasonable to question whether or not he's still mentally stable to make these sorts of decisions...

Hence my suggestion the NFL needs a concussion retirement rule.[/QUOTE]

I hadn't considered that Tua might already be experiencing a decline in mental acuity. I hope not, but it's possible.

And to your point, I think we all believe that he's had significantly more concussions than have been publicly reported.

Counter point would be Tua's family, both his parents/brother and wife.

At this point, it's not about the money. So, I would find it very unlikely that they could see decline and not step up and step in.

I know it's Tua's decision, but considering he's a family man, I'd be shocked if they were totally against him playing but he stubbornly persisted.

That's precisely what's reportedly happened after his last two concussions (2022 and 2024) - mom wanted him to retire, he chose to play.

I probably wouldn't trust anything that comes from that page. That TotalProSports is primarily a clickbait site, and I already caught them lying earlier today. They sourced everything else in the article, except for that statement.

Earlier today, someone posted a link from that page to FB that said Tua had been cleared to play by the Dolphins doctors lol. If that happened today, that would be headline news everywhere lol. The media would have a field day with the Dolphins lol.

Fair, but I recall hearing these reports after his concussion in 2022. But that also might have been click-bait.

Is it possible that he doesn't retire voluntarily because he wouldn't receive as much money as if he was forced to retire due to medical requirements?
