Most frustrating thing to me was that it was apparent to all of us watching that Venables had his defense crashing down on the short routes and Milrie runs.
So what do we do? Short routes and Milroe runs until the game was lost. Even a Milroe defender like me will admit he had a bad game, but he got zero help from the booth and almost as little from his blockers and receivers. They just ran him right into the teeth of a pretty salty defense until he became too desperate and made those hellish INT's.
If I was Venables, I'd feel pretty smug about how I dominated Bama's coaching brain trust. As far as adjustments, we were deer in the headlights again and it looks like if the gameplan we choose during the week of preparation isn't working, we either can't or won't change during a game.
To us watching, it's like seeing a nightmare game of rock paper scissors. Their team brought rock and we just keep on trying scissors for the whole game like the outcome is going to improve. I don't get it.
