I’m just wondering what a victim of Russian disinformation to interfere with the 2020 election needs to be pardoned for.

At this point, why wouldn't he? We're going to have a convicted felon become president of the united states, so there is no reason to stand behind your word when doing so means nothing in the eyes of the people. If I was Biden, I would do the same thing and have zero regrets.

The most amusing part of all this are the number of people actually pretending to be surprised by this. Even the Republicans on X are putting on a show. Anyone who really didn't see this happening at some point......well, I won't say it in keeping with the spirit of the board reboot; let's just say there's a reason they aren't astronauts.

I was told the dems were above all this, but it's good to see more folks realizing it's long been a race to the bottom.

Also, I just saw that because of this pardon, Hunter can no longer invoke the 5th amendment's right against self-incrimination when testifying before Congress or a grand jury.

Not a fan of the expansion of executive branch power in my lifetime. Period.
...with full recognition that no small part of it is due to the vacuum created by legislative branch abdicating responsibility for actually governing.
...with full recognition that an increasing number of folks are elected to the legislative branch not to carefully consider how to govern, but to screech and be a caricature.

Thank you! This has been an ongoing problem for far too long now. If the winner of the presidential race fills you with crippling anxiety, it's a sure sign that the executive has WAY too much power.

Issuing pardons is not an expansion of power for the executive branch, that power as been there from the beginning. The first Presidential pardon was issued by George Washington on November 2, 1795.

Trump is about to pardons 100s of domestic terrorist but, I'm supposed to be all bent out of shape because Biden pardons his son?

I would have done the same thing Joe, who cares what anyone says. I'd also issue federal pardons for everyone the incoming administration says they are going to prosecute just to stick it to Trump. Then again, I'm meaner than Biden and would also use my newly granted immunity powers from the SCOTUS to hold onto power while arresting Trump and his team for crimes against the motherland.

"We" just elected a felon/molester/insurrectionist. This is mere child's play in comparison. I'm not a fan of the action, but clearly Hunter was just a tool for the right to hurt/distract Biden. Same as it ever was though. If we went after the rest of Congress for their crimes in an even handed, justice is blind way, we wouldn't even have quorum in January.
And?

So let me get this straight: the Republicans encouraged Hunter Biden to profit off his father’s position in American politics to distract Joe Biden?

Talk about playing the long game.

LOL, I've been there for years and have been open about it here.

Unlike some, I've not seen it as binary for a long time. While I lean conservative, I see both parties as totally corrupt.

The fact that you're admitting the dems are also corrupt does seem like a breakthrough, though. Glad to see that.
Yeah, you've been criticizing both sides for years. As have I. As has every other non-donkey tribalist here. Funny how loyalty to the tribe makes one lose all powers of basic comprehension. Add in the whataboutism for extra amusement. But, at least there is finally acknowledgment that both sides suck. Making progress!

Now, if the esteemed members of the tribe would just acknowledge that they were dishonest in claiming that Joe's mental decline was real and not just a stutter ... :D

Please don't be disingenuous. Hunter Biden wasn't prosecuted for profiting from his father's position in politics.
Yet. That doesn't mean that the possibility didn't exist. If I'm remembering correctly, the "sweetheart" plea deal offered to Hunter included protections against prosecution for "influence peddling" if he pleaded guilty to the tax charges. The judge didn't allow this of course, so presumably the possibility was still on the table up until yesterday.

Please stop obfuscating. Hunter Biden wasn't prosecuted for profiting from his father's position, he was prosecuted for tax evasion for attempting to hide over $1M of those earnings from the IRS. Would the IRS prosecute me if I did the same thing? Absolutely. You too.

What was the obfuscation? Read the post to which i was responding.

Also, don't forget the gun charge.

The obfuscation was your post's attempt to frame the prosecution of Hunter as political. The gun charges? Maybe. I could see many a prosecutor dropping something like this. The tax evasion? No way. Any ordinary citizen would go to the slammer for knowingly not reporting over $1M in income on their tax return. Of this I am certain.

Primary takeaway from this thread: it’s OK to do bad stuff if the people you disagree with do it too.

SMH
nah, you are missing the point entirely.

The left has given up holding our side to standards that the right doesn't even try to uphold. Why should the left be the only side accountable. You want a felon for President and to not hold to any standards but now it's an issue because the left has decided to join you? Lol
