The same basic argument that is keeping Miami out of the playoffs should also apply to SMU. Weak schedule/conference and no top 25 wins. Should’ve required winning the conference to get in

That’s not what they said. Rather, they said:

Conference title game losers would t be unduly punished. No one not on the committee knows for sure what that means.

Last week’s rankings of idle teams were solid for those teams relative to each other, not that their numerical spot was solid.
Well either way it's never total transparency with what they are doing.

They can push certain narratives for weeks and then do something different at the last minute with no explanation.

They also use wishy washy unclear terminology like 'unduly' punished.

They never give clear parameters like X team loses close they stay or X team gets blown out they're out.

If the whole setup is about eyeballs and money they will put Bama in and push SMU out.

It it's about 'Parity' and getting regional eyeballs on the thing then maybe they pick SMU.

Nobody has a legitimate beef that's on the bubble though and all of them could have done things to get off the chopping block.

I know this isn’t going to happen but I wish the CFP playoff committee would say tomorrow, “We’ve amended our procedure and the Big 12 is no longer an automatic qualifier moving forward. Sorry ASU. You’re not in.” Just wishful thinking.

I still think Bama is in at #12

Bama vs ND or PSU on paper draws more views.

But they will have lied again one way or another.

They said Idle teams won't drop AND that a CG loser won't drop.

They will have mislead people on one of those points.
No you are the one lying or has a bad memory or you were mislead. He was asked if SMU could fall behind Alabama if they lost. He said “potentially”.

They were asked if a team lost in the conference CG would they be penalized, he said, not “unduly”, implying that they might be penalized but not more than they should. Whatever that means.

Playing a close game vs #17 and yet losing doesn’t change the fact that they lost both games vs ranked teams in the bottom half of the Top 25 vs Alabama who beat the new #2 team, atop 15 team and #18. The SEC will go ballistic.

If number of losses is the be all, then let’s just put Army who has fewer losses (1) than SMU in.

At least we can still look forward to the end of LANK, right? After Vand and OK I thought we never had a chance. After losing to Vandy and OK I wanted to be done with them. I still found my self rooting for SMU just to give us that punchers chance. Watching these two teams tonight I am conflicted to thinking we were better than both of them... but then again they might have just embarrassed us all again.

They said that idle teams won’t drop in relation to other idle teams, not that they won’t drop. Pay attention.

Yes, he is. Two weak teams played in a conference championship game. One won, the other lost. The loser, already weak, was further identified as weak and eliminated from the CFP.

Not sure how that diminishes the conference championship game more than it already was when it featured two weak teams to begin with.

Well that is partly the same thing.

ND was idle for one.

If they dropped Bama that's an Idle team they would have dropped in relation to.

Why are you getting all over me about semantics?

All I'm saying is the Committee is never really straightforward and they speak out of both sides of their mouth and ultimately do whatever they want at the last minute.

Funny that in the first year of the expanded playoffs, there are decidedly NOT 12 teams worthy to play for all the marbles. This year should have gone back to the BCS. Also, bye weeks and championship games aren’t fair considering the toll this sport takes on the human body. Eliminate both.

That’s fair. These were started as money makers. Now fans have to choose a meaningless championship game or paying for playoff tickets (if you’re in regardless). When I saw how empty ATL was today I told my wife this is the beginning of the end of conference championship games. Not sure what the TV ratings will show but I doubt it will warrant keeping them around.

The committee will have to rank Clemson ahead of South Carolina, despite both having 3 losses, USC playing a much tougher schedule, and USC beating Clemson one week ago lol
