Starters for Bowl Game?

Alright, let's start focusing on the future. For those close to the program, what changes should we expect to see across starting positions for the bowl game?

Aside from transfers out, will DeBoer focus on winning this game, or will he focus on player development for 2025?

Thoughts?

I wouldn't expect many opt outs honestly.

KR looks looks like the real deal, but it's a big ask to start as a true freshman as a QB. Neither, Tua nor Bryce did, and while Hurts did, I really think it hurt his long term development. I hope one of the guys on the roster earns the spot and give KR a season to ramp up like Tua and bryce had and if KR is that good maybe he plays a good bit like Tua did.
Yeah, not saying he will OR should, but Kyle Henderson, who is pretty plugged into player profiles and recruiting thinks so.

I will say he looks much more polished as a high school SR than JM looked the whole time he's been here. Not talking about "results" but "process." Things like footwork, for instance. You watch the tape and you'd think KR should be JM after 4 years in college if you only focus on footwork. His throwing mechanics/motion also are very advanced. He always has his eyes downfield!

To borrow another poster's words...speaking "tongue in cheek" if you will, Russell looks like "a real QB."

The other thing going in favor of KR is we now have a known QB whisper in CKD and so his development could come faster. We know for a FACT that JM was NOT developed because his OC didn't think he should even be playing QB. There could also be a movement among staff and (especially fans) that we just need to start "fresh."

But, the best case scenario is that Ty Simpson suddenly emerges as the "real deal" and he blossoms into what we hoped he could be with some real playing time in the Deboer system! And when it comes to QBs I don't think we should forget about Austin Mack's possible development!

I would have to think about the Milroe situation a bit if I were the coach. If my starting QB wanted to play the bowl game I am not sure I would tell him "forget it go pack your bags". However my main focus would be on working the players who will be here next year. So I am working Ty heavily in the practices as the #1 QB. Then I probably let Milroe play the first half and Ty the second half regardless of the score.

Sorry if I don’t base my opinion on internet rumors. This team has earned the right to go out on their own terms. I’d love nothing more than to see a fully loaded Bama team wear out someone in the bowl game to make a point. There’s plenty of time to work on next year.
I'd like to see us beat Michigan like UGA did to FSU last year!

Would love this, but I'd have to see it to believe it. Won't happen IMO.

Much like CKD and CNS sitting down for a meeting after the season, it won't happen. I don't know why the university is paying CNS a half million in salary to consult if he's not consulting. 🤷‍♀️

Well turns out that OC, BoB, was right after all. I sorry he was right, but at this point it's hard to argue with him.

"I think they're aware that just our style this year, it was all about whatever it took to win," DeBoer said. "I'll credit those guys. They did a great job of doing whatever they needed to do to help us win. We got a lot of unselfish guys.
"From year to year, that's going to change and evolve based on the personnel we have," DeBoer said. "The style is going to be different. It might not just be the quarterback. It might be the number of receivers and tight ends. Yeah, we're going to have a little bit of what we envision it being down the road. That's kind of what I really appreciate about our guys is it was all about what it took to win, and them taking a backseat to whatever it would take to do that for them individually, and all those guys did that."
Most clearly DeBoer has said it IMO

What I have seen on KR makes me very optimistic about him for sure. Just a general thing that it seems QBs do a bit better long term when they don't have the pressure of starting as true freshman, at least not at the beginning of the year. Giving them some time to adjust to the greater speed of the game in college seems to create a better long term path for them.

My only concern at all with KR, is that his QB coach is the same guy, Brad Stanfield, who coached JM (since 7th grade apparently). I don't see any of the same issues with KR from a fundamental standpoint as JM had when he showed up and still has frankly (like you said earlier), but some of what we see with JM now wasn't apparent until he was competing against SEC caliber athletes where the margin for error is smaller.

This is pretty telling as well:

"Alabama's offensive style was obviously shaped by the strengths of quarterback Jalen Milroe, who led the team with 152 rushing attempts. Alabama averaged only 26.75 pass attempts per game, which ranked 105th among 133 FBS teams this season. That was in stark contrast to the offense Washington ran last season under DeBoer, which averaged 38 pass attempts per game -- 12th-most in FBS. And the nation's most pass-heavy offense last season, Georgia Southern, was coordinated by Bryan Ellis, who is now Alabama's tight ends coach."

All these pass-happy play callers on staff, CKD, CNSheridan, Ellis, and WR coach shephard who was an OC over a top 5 passing yard team, and we still ended up without a robust passing game.

Well I know YOU dont like Milroe like you have a personal vendetta against him so of course I expect you to put 99.9% of the blame on him.

The Tennessee and OU losses? Sure, put that on him, but last time I checked, the defense couldn’t stop a New Mexico State QB back in October.
So only 66.6%? 🤷🏼‍♂️
Sorry…it was there…

Saban even admitted he doesn't talk to any of the staff on a routine basis.
