Ty ran for 1,200 yards and 15 rushing TDs his senior year of high school.

Lonergan clocked about 700 rushing yards his senior year.

Those are more than “slips out of the pocket when needed” numbers IMO.

Agreed on BOB, he was always a pro-style guy. Not sure about Rees - lots of designed QB runs during his tenure at ND.

I may be wrong but it feels like we were gravitating towards that down the stretch under Saban, especially when he hired Rees and brought in Buchner, who was also a skilled runner
This is 247 on simpson

"Has a poise to his passing game in the pocket but also excels with his ability to improvise and extend plays with his feet. More of a passer, but you have to respect his feet as a runner. Rushed for over 1200 yards and 15 TD’s on the ground in his senior season."

IMHO, saban was looking for.pass first guys who were mobile enough to extend when stuff got disrupted. That was Tua, bryce young, Simpson and lonergan. Mac slipped in their because his release was so fast he could just scoot around a bit and still get the ball out.

Hes Not less anything than Vince Young honestly. Except the national title

And yea you better get ready for him to be your qb. Hes an outright better athlete than levis fwiw.
At least VY could throw an underneath route occasionally.

Levis is just the latest in a very long line of wasted draft picks by the Titans. But if they draft Lank, my username will miraculously change to “Saints&Tide”, which is only marginally better at this point.🤦🏻‍♂️

You say Milroe is “a more gifted runner than anyone “ in the NFL? You must not watch the NFL…better than Lamar Jackson ?? Jayden Daniels, Jalen hurts, Kyler Murray..Josh Allen..pat mahomes…to mention a few.
Yes he's a better runner than all of them and I unfortunately watch the NFL as if it were my job. Maybe it is my job

Also thanks for making the point that there are several successful running qbs in the NFL and that alone drives Jalen draft value up.

I’m not accusing him of anything. It is known.
Serious question. How is it “known”? Surely, you don’t just believe everything you hear, especially on the internet.

Btw, not saying it’s not true or can’t be true, though I doubt some aspects that some suggest. But I know nothing about it - true or false.

A lot of false or enhanced stuff gets started on message boards. To make serious charges based on no facts or some fact, then enhanced, is wrong. To destroy someone’s reputation is serious business. And if what you say is certain, then fine, but someone who knows needs to get specific. “Logical conclusions” are not enough, someone’s reputation is on the line, their life is altered.

I remember several years ago when a team we played in a bowl game -- pre-CNS -- used all the practices and the game to install their offense for the next year. They lost -- and the announcers stated ad nauseam what they were doing.

I really wish KDB would do something like that...make good use of the end of a disappointing season.
You may be referring to Colorado in the Blockbuster Bowl following the ‘91 season. I think ?Darian Hagen? was the QB.

Alabama won.

Milroe was only recruited because we missed on the guys we wanted, who were more pocket passers, and he was the best we could get to flip.

Simpson wasn't a running QB in HS. He was a passer who could escape the pocket when needed and was fast enough to get yards.

Lonergan was pretty much like Simpson

Saban was not shifting our philosophy toward a running QB style. He hired BOB and CTR, both are pro-style guys, not RPO running the QB guys.
Wasn't Milroe taken after Drake Maye decided to forego his Bama commitment to stay in NC?

If I remember this correctly, this very well could have cost us a NC.

Can we even imagine how good DM could have been at Bama?

A couple pages back it was said all of our current QBs are "dual threat" QBs (except AM) and the suggestion was CKD will have to rethink his offensive style because of this.

Just because a guy can "run" doesn't mean he's "dual threat." Perhaps it's semantics, but a "dual threat" QB suggests a player who needs to use his legs to make his arm legit. JM needed to RUN MORE to make his arm a weapon. It's why he had 20 running TDs and only 15 passing TDs.

Ty Simpson is actually very fast, but he is a passer who can run if needed. And the newly minted QB signee, Keelon Russell, can run but he is a pass first kind of QB.

Here's my projection: If next year TS, DL, AM or KR is our starting QB their passing TD to running TD ratio will probably be 4/5 to 1 at the minimum.

To compare the greatest "dual threat" QB in the NFL right now (From an article in early Nov.):

Through nine games, Jackson has completed 68.2% of his passes for 2,379 yards, 20 touchdowns, and two interceptions, and he’s rushed 84 times for 505 yards (most among NFL quarterbacks) and two touchdowns. Jackson is on pace for a career-high 4,494 yards passing and 954 rushing. If he can sustain his passing stats while slightly increasing his rushing stats, Jackson could become the first player in NFL history to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in the same season.

Pretty sure Drake was the top target, and there was another we tried to move, but I can't recall who that was.

No matter how I answer, you’re gonna ask for proof. All I can say is it’s true.

Does every thread have to devolve into bashing players on the team. I rarely post but read everyday for 20 years. It's disgusting how people talk about players on the team. Milroe has given more of his energy to the team in one week than most of you in a life time. I'm not a basher or apologist, not everything has to be a culture war. 😤
I'm 59, so the cumulative energy I've given to this team is pretty doggone high

I don't see Jalen's running ability the way some do. he's very fast running in a straight line. I don't see him having good field vision and he doesn't juke or run through contact very well. He cost us multiple first downs this year by running laterally or even backwards instead of forward. He will continue to cost people jobs IMHO.

You might want to go ahead and reserve that handle as your second choice, 'cause whether by draft order or trading up to get him, those are the two teams most likely to call his name and lead to Goofball Goodell giving Milroe the embrace of the Shield...

I will respectfully disagree. He may be faster in a straight line, but he doesn't have the instinctiveness and pocket awareness these high level scramblers have. Yes, when there's a hole the size of a truck and he's able to run fast, he's good. But, give him some obstacles and chaos, then you start seeing the cracks. I wish him all the best in the NFL, but I don't see how he becomes an elite NFL scrambler.

No, he's gonna get some GM fired.
If he's drafted as high as some project, he'll be a multi-millionaire within seconds of signing his first deal.

I'm not thrilled with him as our QB, but I am always thrilled for our players when they make more money before they're 25 than I will make in my entire life.

I hope he goes pro and I wish him all the best at the next level.

I wish/hope that Jalen bows out of the game so DeBoer can see what he has for next year. We can and have debated Jalen Milroe on this board for 2 years now. I don't think anyone is going to change anyone's mind about who he is as a QB but I will say I am highly confident he will struggle greatly in the NFL if he gets a shot to start at some point. You have seen how he does against pressure in college. Watch an NFL game to see how quickly the d-line gets to the QB.
