This is 247 on simpsonTy ran for 1,200 yards and 15 rushing TDs his senior year of high school.
Lonergan clocked about 700 rushing yards his senior year.
Those are more than “slips out of the pocket when needed” numbers IMO.
Agreed on BOB, he was always a pro-style guy. Not sure about Rees - lots of designed QB runs during his tenure at ND.
I may be wrong but it feels like we were gravitating towards that down the stretch under Saban, especially when he hired Rees and brought in Buchner, who was also a skilled runner
"Has a poise to his passing game in the pocket but also excels with his ability to improvise and extend plays with his feet. More of a passer, but you have to respect his feet as a runner. Rushed for over 1200 yards and 15 TD’s on the ground in his senior season."
IMHO, saban was looking for.pass first guys who were mobile enough to extend when stuff got disrupted. That was Tua, bryce young, Simpson and lonergan. Mac slipped in their because his release was so fast he could just scoot around a bit and still get the ball out.
