2025 Basketball Recruiting

Alright, I'm headed over to the next track to catch the Mikel Brown, Jr train.

Anybody want to jump on with me? :)

This will come off as sour grapes but college athletics is now officially a joke. I wish AJ the best and I don't blame him at all for taking the highest bidder's offer, as nothing is guaranteed down the road in athletics, but I'm more upset with the current state of the NCAA and its lack of literally zero rules.

AJD moved up a year to graduate. Something many aren't talking about. He will play most of his freshman year as an 18 year old. Is he special? Absolutely. Will an 18 year old one and done that you will have to unload the coffers on be better than a 22 year old redshirt senior portal guy who wants to win a championship his last year of college? Probably not. You can get 5 of those guys for what it would have cost to bring in AJD.

This was always going to be BYU. Said that a long time ago. All about the money as it would be for 99% of us. I think he is a great player but I don't think he will be as good as a freshman as Brandon Miller was for Bama.

I honestly think he played the game and it payed off. He told many that he was flipping and it caused BYU to counter with more money. He knew all along he was going to BYU but his words and actions didn't match up with his intentions. Bama assistant coach was so sure he was coming that he did his not so incognito tweet. Leverage Leverage Leverage...

Boy times have changed.

@jjv0004 , I appreciate your thoughts. They are certainly valid.

I would respectfully disagree on a couple things, but my opinion carries no more weight than yours. :)

This is easy to say now. I believe the decision was not nailed down until recently. I also believe BAMA was closer than most would realize.

I personally think he will be better for BYU than Brandon Miller was for BAMA, and there are multiple reasons why he would be.

Again, just my opinion. :)

Personally, I would rather get the players that will be with us for more than just one year (aside from the chaotic portal issue).
I think we have to realize that we are going to lose 60 to 70% of our roster each year. Our team is better when we are not focused on one player who has to score. Guys like that will demand 15+ shots per game. And what we need are six or seven guys take between five and 12 shots.

Seems to me our staff was convinced they had him, and BYU upped their offer at the last minute.
