Several things play into that PSU-SMU ticket demand (or should i say lack of demand). First, lack of a brand name program as an opponent. Big hat SMU fans aren’t traveling the weekend before Christmas to support their “team”. Second, it is the second biggest stadium in the Big Ten at 106,000. Next, the semester ended last Friday. Students headed home for holidays. I bet State College is ghost town. Additionally the travel is a pain. Major Airports (Pittsburgh and Philly) are 3-4 hour drives. Harrisburg (nice airport but flights get sketchy with weather this time of year) is 1.5 hours away. Finally, forecast calls for a chance of snow Friday morning and temps in the 20’s Friday night. High of in the mid 20’s on Saturday.

But, IF it was a Bama-PSU matchup, Bama fans and the Bama brand travels.

Just out of curiosity, I just went to StubHub to see how much tickets were selling for the PSU vs. SMU game, and tickets are ridiculously cheap compared to a Bama game. You will not find tickets listed that cheap on StubHub even when Bama is playing teams like Mercer at home. I figure the TV ratings will be awful for that game.

The only one of those games that is mildly interesting is Tennessee at Ohio State.

Clemson v. Texas might have been something if it were the Clemson of 5 years ago.

Another factor worth looking back on after these games are over is how they did ratings-wise vs. the NFL games that will be played at the same time.
NFL games don’t move to Saturday until the following weekend. That’d be a hugely silly move to go up against the NFL.
