When NIL started I thought it just meant a player could get paid for doing a commercial or something like that. It seems like they just give players money now.
If CFB needs a standard earnings cap per player, this email is proof. If you had just taken the Tennessee route and charged an extra $3-5 dollars, you wouldn’t need to beg. This is not a fan responsibility.
It is, schools with big money spending boosters and allumni got “smart” and thought that buying players would make their teams better. Texas A&M’s 2022 class is sole proof it doesn’t necessarily work that way.
There is major disconnect when we are expected to show our loyalty by sending money to pay players that have NO loyalty.
Hell, he might as well have started a go-fund-me account. LOL!
$3 - $5 will soon be $30 - $50 and so on. And if Tenn's fee is 20% as has been mentioned here, that's a heck of a lot more that $3 - $5 now.
I have no words. Well, I have no words that would be allowed here. If they had taken care of the game, there would have always been plenty of money. They chose to take care of the money, and the game is dead. It's garbage.
That's literally all it's supposed to be. All this pay-for-play is a bastardization of the rule and its intent.
Just go ahead and go international. Be the first college football program to get in bed with the Saudis. Let them rename the stadium or whatever else they want. If you can tap that bottomless pit of cash, you’ll never run low on funds. First, figure out what is the asking price to sell your soul.
I will always treasure Alabama's run of dominance in the last decades of real college football but I do not have it in me to get financially invested in this.
Money Phil Night donated to Oregon athletics, over a billion. Alabama athletics are not doing as well relative to other departments as some people seem to think. Texas for instance is generally tens of millions ahead and that's on that side, now Alabama is getting lapped on the NIL side.
Having said that, the athletic department is handcuffed by the NIL structure. He can't actually divert department funds to NIL, that's still a violation of NCAA rules. There's new framework coming through but that's still capped.
You know I didn't want any of this though... I said Alabama wasn't well positioned for it. I can't blame Byrne for the situation though, he didn't create it or wish for it.

The latest fad that really ticks me off is the automatic request for a tip at a counter for someone to do the job they are getting payed a full wage to do. It’s started popping up in all kinds of places that involve zero wait service. Lowest option usually starts at 20%. Nah, get bent. But I digress.
A fair question, yet politicians still raise incredible amounts of money despite the fact that everyone in congress is a millionaire.
I guess it's all about trying to create a desired result. There are always people willing to pay for that, and from there it becomes a matter of what outcome people want the most.
My wife and I donate our time (e.g., surgical missions) and tens of thousands of dollars yearly to various causes to put people in dire poverty in a position to be able help themselves going forward (e.g. start businesses, get an education/training, etc.). The more of our disposable income the government allows us to keep, the more charity we will do. Giving kids a ridiculous pile of money to play football is obscene, IMO. I will never entertain this idea.
If I were deep in dough, which I’m not I could not in good conscience contribute to the delinquency of a minor.
Just heard that the barn is instituting a ticket price increase next year and the reason is to help bolster NIL. So the schools aren’t supposed to be involved in this? Tennessee has done the same.
Has he put forward a well thought out plan to fix this cluster? If not, he’s just wasting his and my time.
