I'd like to see the requirement be sitting out the rest of the quarter, but will settle for sitting out the rest of the possession.

I agree with the exemption for a player who is hurt by a collision that draws a penalty on the opposing team. Though if he's really hurt on a late hit / targeting / crackback block / whatever, I'm not sure he'd be back after one play anyway.

But I don't understand the exemption for guys with green dots (radio communication).

If that's the rule, what's to keep coaches from forever faking injury to the green dot guys?

Regardless, you know I love the part where Craig Bohl said to the inevitable detractors to come, "If you don't like this, come up a better alternative that fixes the problem."

I guess it is that teams do not have a bunch of radio equipped helmets on the sidelines. Take the green dot guy out and the sidelines has no way to send in plays except by runner.
Maybe. So I'm curious....how do they handle it when the green dot guy really does get hurt and won't be returning to the game?

I seem to remember that there is an alternate who cannot be on the field at the same time as the primary, but I might have imagined that.
I believe this to be true. I would also surmise that they have alternate helmets for someone else on the field to put on in the event of the primary play caller going down.
There’s also the whole “radio system doesn’t work” and you have to go back 2 seasons and give hand signals.

I'm in favor of a requirement to remain out until two minutes of play clock has passed before returning to the game.

Simple fix to me. Outfit the 2nd, 3rd green dot player with an alternate helmet he can exchange during the injury down time. I’d hope this scenario is already addressed.

I read it as green dots only would have to sit out 1 play.

This proposal is very similar to what we have discussed and proposed here. I would add that anyone doing it also gets an unsportsmanlike 15 yd penalty, as well and a 2nd occurrence results in ejection. Make the penalty be so over the top harsh that nobody thinks about doing it.

Not a fan of this rule, offenses routinely break the rules and nobody bats an eye, but now the defenses have had the rules changed and now have subjective rules in place to hamper them more.

If you’re so worried about the game fix the offensive nonsense.

This would not be just for defensive injuries, right?

I’m not sure I have ever seen the offense use this tactic. Maybe one has, but this is to primarily slow down these garbage tempo offenses.

Do offenses even have to “huddle” between the hash marks? That would be a big step towards curbing the nonsense. I think college hash marks are closer together?

It’s about time! Glad to see anything to keep the game running smoothly. Now if we could keep the game from being interrupted by incessant penalties from the zebras.

Just one of many...but maybe one of most egregious (from last year)
