Part II auto locked right after CrimsonJazz posted this video so I am starting this thread by posting it here so everyone will see it.

What's the issue with this sympathy vs empathy thing that I've seen pop up about Kirk since his shooting? I listened to the video and apparently he does't "believe in" empathy but does believe in sympathy. Says he "prefers" sympathy rather than empathy. I'm not sure why he "believes" in one but not the other. But I'm wondering why that is such a big deal? If he said he doesn't "believe in" either one of them, then I start raising eyebrows.

When I tell you people don't learn anything, I'm not just being mean.

Democrats are about to get a socialist elected Mayor of NYC.
Republicans are protecting a pedophile and their base is okay with it.
And the news media will continue spin yarns because, well, they CAN.

I know it's not "absolute." Sometimes people do learn stuff, but it's the exception. There is severe brain damage inherent in every so-called member of the national press that requires them to filter every story through, "Does this person meet some criterion of an oppressed person" and then, well, say stupid stuff.

They're the one group of people more reliable than Trump for saying something absolutely brain dead. Fortunately, it's not like they're some necessary bastion of freedom or anything.

I generally equate empathy with being able to understand a shared or similar experience because you have experienced it. Its a more genuine response to another.

Sympathy (thoughts and prayers) is a more superficial response to another person's misfortune because you dont know or cant understand that person's misfortune.

I also don’t understand why he even drew a line.

Empathy is trying or being able to put yourself in another’s position and understand what they are dealing with or what they are talking about.

Sympathy is having compassion or concern for the other person whether or not you understand what they are going through or saying.

Ideally one would or should be able to express both.

They both can be genuine and both can be insincere; that completely depends on the person.

There are a lot of times where sympathy is the only thing I can offer someone because I've never been through what they're going through or dealt with the emotions that situation brings. I'm also not an overly emotional type of person, where I can manufacture emotions on demand to fit a situation. Crazy enough, I know people who can do that, and sometimes I wish I had that gift. It would help me not come across so "gruff" sometimes (as my wife tells me I can come across). LOL!

Yeah, I'm not sure why he did that, or why it meant that much to him to do that. Depending on the situation, we normally experience both as we go through life.

That's as good an explanation as one can expect. Truth is, one can only empathize so far and true empathy is practically impossible. Yes, we can have a similar experience, but because we are very different people, the experience is quite different in terms of how we process it mentally and emotionally. Still, we try, anyway and that is a good thing.

Seeing the Epstein files is becoming as rare as seeing how fast Titus Ryan could run or Duron Carter playing for Alabama...
You can thank the Senate for that (who voted 51-49 to not release the files.......on the same day Charlie Kirk was shot.)

Also, Duron Carter? What ever happened to that guy?

these chuds seem to be protesting a bit too much

The Federal Communications Commission’s Trump-aligned chairman on Wednesday threatened to “take action” against Disney and ABC over Jimmy Kimmel’s recent comments about Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer.

During his Monday evening monologue, Kimmel suggested Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, might have been a pro-Trump Republican. “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”
