I can't imagine what living in this state will be like having Tubs as Guvnah and Pearl as Senatah...

I wished that Saban had the foresight to after the add drop deadline on the semester to keep players from transferring...

Does anybody know of an instance where a clear nepo hire worked out?

I can name two disasters — Murry Bartow taking over for his dad Gene at UAB, and Joey Meyer taking over for his dad Ray decades ago at DePaul.

But I can’t think of any successes.
The brothers Drew at Val? (I know Scott jumped to Baylor after one year at Val)

Belichick has his son lined up to be his heir at UNC but first he has to prove he isn’t a disaster hire himself.

John Thompson, III's overall record at Georgetown wasn't horrible. Nowhere near his dad's, but not bad. Also, he didn't directly succeed his father. There was a coach in between.

Thompson, III started out really well, but tailed off, and his last few years weren't good, especially his in-conference record. He did end up getting fired.

I was thinking about this. Yeah it might help for that first year but I wonder if it alienates players moving forward. It may have long term consequences if you “trap” players like Auburn has just done.

The Bowden's may be the ones with the most success.

Stephen Belichick.....

I don't know the rule, but am guessing that whether they can transfer and play soon depends on whether it's defined by season (in which case, the transfers couldn't play), or by academic term. If the academic term, they might not be able to play until the spring semester, but that's still the majority of the games.

Anybody out there know the rule?
Well, right now it's academically mid-term, so this was no doubt planned... 😎

This is nuts. Never been a coach and they are giving him a 5 year deal.

AD's have let agents set them up with ridiculous terms over the last few years. Supply and demand has to come into play at some point. Awbarn could have easily used their leverage and got Pearl to sign for a 2-3 year deal. At some point you have to figure the donor's have to get tired of paying off coaches who get fired...

This is the barn.

At one point, they were paying three head football coaches, two of whom they were paying not to coach -- Malzahn, Harsin and Freeze.

Separate and apart from the barn, I wonder how many schools have made a quick coaching hire so that they don't trash a recruiting class, and ended up with a sub-par coach? It seems to me that a deficient coach is far more expensive in terms of both long-term program success and money.

Steven Pearl comes off as someone who doesn't have very good emotional intelligence. I'm sure he knows the game halfway decent but not anywhere near to the level where he will be able to coach to the likes of CNO, Rick Barnes, and the plethora of other SEC coaches who have been in the game four or five decades. This hire will get the social media likes and hoorah's but it was abysmal at best and won't age well. I'm not sure Pearl Jr. is the type who will handle the new power and notoriety that comes with the job very well either. I don't wish any ill will towards him but he definitely has an uphill battle to climb.

It was pretty well known around the basketball program that his son was earmarked to take over when Bruce retired. I don’t think many thought it would be this soon though.
He has no real prior coaching experience. Pretty scary considering how talented their roster is

Yeah, I watched his video and I agree with the poster who said it's like he was retiring having eclipsed Coach Wooden's records!

Pearl was a good coach, had a rah-rah personality, Kool-Aid-drinker and kinda sleezy guy. Fit Auburn perfectly!

But, if you hear barner's spinning this positively...you know they are still alive cause they don't know what they are getting from a 1st year HC.
