Trump Policies, part IX

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Trump, the only sitting US president to have actually attempted an insurrection to overturn an election, wants to use the Insurrection Act to turn this country into a military police state in an effort to silence opposition. Hmmm, what other type of world leaders have done the same thing? What are they called?

Just more evidence that MAGA, Trump supporters, and the "not Trump, but" crowd will ignore.

Here’s a detailed summary of the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019 (also called the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act, sometimes abbreviated GEFTA), what it does, how it works, and why it was passed. If you want, I can also pull up some recent developments or how it’s being applied now.

What It Is
  • The Act is Public Law 116-1; it was enacted January 16, 2019. Congress.gov+2Wikipedia+2
  • Its purpose is to require that federal employees (and certain District of Columbia government employees) affected by a lapse in appropriations (i.e. a government shutdown) receive compensation for lost time, and that this compensation be provided as soon as possible after the lapse ends. Congress.gov+3Wikipedia+3US Forest Service+3
Why It Was Passed
  • Before this law, when there was a shutdown, Congress would often pass legislation after the fact to provide back pay (retroactive wages) for furloughed employees. But there was no automatic guarantee — it depended on Congress acting. Wikipedia+1
  • The 2018-2019 shutdown (which started December 22, 2018) was especially long and disruptive, affecting many federal and DC employees. There was strong bipartisan support for a more certain mechanism to ensure employees are made whole in future shutdowns. Wikipedia
  • Thus, this Act formalized that guarantee into statute, amending the Antideficiency Act (a law that governs what happens when appropriations lapse) so that compensation is required, not discretionary. Department of Justice+2Congress.gov+2
Legal Basis / Where It Fits
  • It is an amendment to section 1341 of Title 31, United States Code, which is part of the Antideficiency Act. That Act governs what federal agencies may and may not do when they do not have appropriated funds. Department of Justice+2Congress.gov+2
  • The new subsection added (often called 31 U.S.C. § 1341(c)) provides the rules for retroactive pay and leave, as outlined above. Congress.gov+1

seems like they are tying to distract from something

Miller's contention that adverse judicial rulings constitute an insurrection against the president is breathtaking. Judicial supremacy, established by Justice Marshall in Marbury vs. Madison in 1803 is quite literally what's held this country together for 250 years. No one being above the law, as interpreted by the courts and, ultimately, the SCOTUS. In all of cases attempting to define "insurrection," no one has ever even dared suggest that it could cover a branch of our own government. Now, Miller is no lawyer, but you presume he, at least, has the benefit of advice of some competent counsel. If the executive branch can simply annul adverse rulings by proclaiming them to be "insurrection," then we've crossed another fascism checkpoint...

Now, Trump is claiming to have warned Pete about 9/11 a year before it happened. This freaking idiot has to make everything about him. Even 9/11 is not off limits for this sumbag.

I'm sure he also gave God the idea to create Adam. Trump Bible II coming soon.

Biden was slow, trump is mentally incompetant.

By the time, we can confidently determine we are under the control of a fascist regime we likely wont be able to say we are under the control of a fascist regime...

in today’s episode of totally not fascism

Social on Wednesday that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker "should be in jail" in an escalation of his conflict with the two Democratic officials.

"Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers!" he said in the post. "Governor Pritzker also!"

my guess is that the continued support of and covering for dear leader will not wane at all.

maybe some free speech absolutists will step up to the plate

Held at the table of “independent journalists” (far-right activists) and moderated by Donald Trump, it opened with a statement by the president that “paid anarchists” want to “destroy our country,” followed by bizarre, conspiracy-laden claims that anti-Trump protesters have signs made of expensive paper “with beautiful wooden handles” that therefore must have been printed in the basements of secretive organizations, and that “we have a lot of records already, a lot of surprises, a lot of bad surprises” in store for the people who align themselves with anti-fascism.

And by the way, he noted, “we got rid of free speech” because flag-burning is bad.
