SEC Booth Reviews are Out of Control

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

Who is it that told the SEC officiating corps that the job of the team up in the booth was to stop play on every other snap to review some trivial nonsense that the refs on the field had already handled? Their interference is making an already inconsistent process even more infuriating. Maybe the SEC should consider telling them to bow out unless either a coach on the field challenges a ruling or the refs on the field ask for help. Otherwise, shut up and let the game proceed.

They should have reviewed the Kirby Timeout in the Auburn game. The Auburn video boards were playing Kirby running down the sideline calling TO as he convinced the refs he was clapping. Crazy.

I think GA should have been called for a TO, and then Kirby called for unsportsmanlike conduct, 3rd and 24. Reset play clock to 25 sec.

And the SEC needs to tell Kirby that going forward, if you want to call timeout, you must:

Be within hearing distance of the official,
the official will ask, "do you wish to stop the clock?
Kirby must replay "affirmative"
Then the official will signal timeout and have Kirby sign a log with the date and time.
Also Kirby must provide a notary public.

I saw that the last 2 mins of the first half took over 36 mins to play...no injuries, no weather event etc...just reviews....
Replay is handled HORRIBLY! I wish they would give coaches two challenges per half and that they were only allowed 20 seconds to review the play twice. If it's obviously wrong, correct it. If it isn't, go with the call on the field and move on.

The most surprising stat from our game yesterday... With Jason Autrey calling...

5-30 penalty wise

We have really cut the penalties and been much more disciplined this year.

Need to work on form and technique and tackling and lining up correctly to cover the gaps on defense, but the discipline has been so much better in fulfilling assignments.

I wouldn't mind their interference if they were making correct calls...but they aren't! 😖

20 seconds is not enough time, but they really do need to put a timer on it. Last night they looked at that for 5 minutes. We went to commercial for 2 minutes, came back and they were still looking at it.

Obviously the timeout should have been assessed, but yeah it should have been unsportsmanlike or delay of game or something along those lines since he tried taking it back. You don't get to call a timeout, stop the clock then get the timeout back. Absolutely egregious. Since neither happened he should be fined, but I imagine nothing happens to anyone involved.

I disagree. It is supposed to be for obviously missed calls. If it is obvious, it doesn't take long. It wasn't supposed to be about slowing it down to microseconds to see if a ball twisted slightly before being secured. The use of replay like they do it in college has jumped the shark. It’s ludicrous.
