I don’t know that I get it…. Unless they know he’s just flat out lost the team.

But it’s a different world I guess.

Just as an impartial observer I was less than impressed with all the excuses he gave after last weeks loss.

I mean he gave excuse after excuse after excuse and then ended it with a half hearted and even less convincing ‘but ultimately I’m responsible’ tag.

So PSU higher ups had to be even less impressed.

I’m a bit surprised they did this now instead of the end of the year.

But PSU shouldn’t even have a FB program anymore or be an Educational Institution and Franklin is a dirtbag so I couldn’t be happier about this mess.

I figured they would wait until after the season. Matt Rhule played at PSU and may be on the short list if he decides to leave Nebraska. Will they go after Curt Cignettti at Indiana? Time will tell.

They were never going to be anything better than 10-2 with Franklin. That keeps you employed forever at Iowa or Kentucky, but not Penn State. Right or wrong, it’s just how it is.

I guess I just don’t view Penn State that way and never have. The Paterno era was mostly them being an Independent and playing an incredibly weak east coast schedule the majority of the time until they joined the Big Ten and subsequently stopped being a national contender.

They aren’t in the same league as Alabama/Ohio State/etc.

I mean, I don’t either but THEY do.

Auburn fans think they’re a football power too…

Yeah and I guess they are massive NIL players. The powers that be want returns on their investments.

And to be frank, I don’t like the guy at all. And agree he was never winning a title.

One of his excuses after the ucla loss was "jetlag"...seriously?!?

I think any program looking for a coach should be looking at Cignetti. But, I read that Mark Cuban was becoming more involved in funding Indiana athletics. Cuban might not be one of the richest in the world, but a net worth of 6 billion is enough for him to outbid Penn State if he wants.

I suspect anything short of an opening at a program like Ohio State, Alabama, Texas or the like might be insufficient, Penn State is a major program but their athletic department still is 20-70 million behind the biggest players and if Cuban is involved he could keep most suitors away.

I'm really not sure about that. I haven't seen them making waves in NIL at least in terms of national stories, they might not be as well positioned as some programs. 2024 saw their recruiting class ranked 15th with 0 5 stars. Of course that might be one reason they want the coach out, if they feel he's not doing his part to make that work. I'd put them in a second tier of college football programs generally speaking, not sure they'd be in my top 12 of the biggest players in the NIL era.

Bet he’s coaching next season somewhere. Maybe even Florida…

And you can’t tell me this generation isn’t used to sitting around for 3 1/2 hours without moving :)

But it may have more to do with sleep issues.
