Link: London Simmons is Having a Great Freshman Season

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

It's almost unthinkable to consider this staff may be as good at recruiting as the GOAT's staff and possibly, just as good/better evaluators???
Time will tell, but if DeBoer and his staff are given enough time to do their style of recruitment and development , you have to tip your hat to the man because Saban at Bama was a recruiting juggernaut year after year and elite players were knocking down doors to come to Tuscaloosa. but with NIL and the transfer portal factoring in, its truly impressive that the last two classes under DeBoer are in the Top 3-5 range.

As a 3* prospect out of Hartfield Academy in Mississippi, Simmons was the No. 34 defensive line recruit nationally by ESPN.com. And 37th rated defensive lineman by On3. Seems he should have been a 4*. Regardless, he's been playing like a 5* freshman.
Those Mississippi DL kids fly under the radar for some reason. Remember a dude by the name of Wallace Gillberry?

remember he was only a 3 star and many fans were disappointed. it has been discussed before over in the recruiting board, but DeBoer and staff know to evaluate and develop prospects.
That, plus let’s err to the side of championship caliber coaches rather than “.com recruiting experts” and all their stars when it comes to player evaluations to begin with.

I remember when Saban’s staff would sign a three-star and two months later the services would have him up to a high-level four star… Rival fans would complain about the “Saban bump” surely just done in order to keep us high in the rankings… the other thought there is maybe the coach has more of a clue than the most recent On3 genius who wouldn’t know which end of the whistle to blow out of.

Josh Jacob's anyone?

A good coach can evaluate for his needs and sometimes see's the potential in a player better than the so called experts. Also some coaches are just able to get more out of young player than others were able to (especially if his surrounding competition elevates him to another level and he embraces it instead of shying away from it)

Nailed it. You cannot measure heart or character. Give me a guy that wants to be coached and I will give you a winner.

Nobody will be able to afford a Saban roster going forward. Bringing in the right high dollar 5* to complement guys like Simmons who are coachable and willing to put in the hard work if necessary and to develop over a couple of ears is the way of the future. Only after that do you complement and plug holes in your team with portal transfers.
