AJ McCarron to run for Lt. Governor

Yet another totally unqualified candidate.
Yep, it’s not like he learned leadership as a starting QB on a couple of national championship teams under the tutelage of the greatest coach of all time. If he really wants to flex his qualifications, he should learn to bartend like AOC. Now THOSE are skills I expect from leadership! ;)

Name calling? Like “ignorant,” “cult member,” or “Trumper”? Because I feel that those terms are accurate for those groups and can back it up with examples if you like. Note that I didn’t single anyone out in those descriptors (other than DeeDee, who has made it known that she enthusiastically supports Trump).

Claims that “conservative cultural values” are “under attack from all sides” is a common and deliberate misstatement used by certain politicians to incite their base and justify their actions. I’m happy to provide examples of that as well.

I’ve never used a derogatory term to describe a poster here by name and I’ve certainly never referred to a poster’s actions/words as ignorant. I’d be happy to debate and discuss our political differences here in a reasoned and rational way. I’m interested in hearing why you think McCarron would do an excellent job.
Note, I have bumped the thread Earl started when we decided to move in a new direction.

Part of that is disallowing calling people (even groups of people) derogatory names.

This is a discussion forum, not a snark forum - if posters cannot discuss the policies without name-calling, they will be removed.

What kills me is everyone thought AJ was the greatest thing since sliced bread throughout his college and NFL career but now that he is "coming out" as a Republican he's an idiot and a moron. Politics is ruining everything.

The fact that he’s spouting the “cultural values are under attack” line should be enough to raise an alarm. That doesn’t make him an idiot or a moron. It makes him a political opportunist of the current Republican variety (and there are quite a few of those on the Democratic side as well). It’s akin to Auburn broadcasters incessantly whining about unfair officiating and SEC bias. Accuracy aside, it’s there to appeal to a certain segment of the population.

I noted the irony in Auburn complaining about officiating. As if they have never been the repeated beneficiary of home cooking in the past.

LOL. No, but I usually stay out of politics here. I come for Alabama football. Ronald Reagan said it best.
"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." There's truth in that, and it makes debate tiresome.

Are you talking about the Ronald Reagan who said that only certified idiot would want to use tariffs in the trade between US and Canada? That Ronald Reagan?

I don’t think there is anything wrong with criticizing someone for their political beliefs, especially if they are running for office.

It has nothing to do with what he did on the football field.

My opinion is he's unqualified. I stand by that as he's been so uninterested in public affairs that he's been registered to vote less than a week.

Yes Selma, I thought the NY Senate gig was ridiculous and wrong and still do.

it's quite triggering, i suppose
Reagan used to say he didn’t leave the Democrats — they left him. If he looked at today’s GOP, he’d probably say the same thing in reverse. The party he knew believed in optimism, free markets, and a basic sense of decency. This version runs on resentment, cruelty, and the cheap thrill of having someone to hate. The White House is treated like a merch stand, government favors are for sale, and the “shining city on a hill” he once imagined has been replaced by a gated community patrolled by grievance and fear.

Everyone that has ever run for any kind of political office the first time was "unqualified ".

From Wikipedia:
"McCarron registered to vote for the first time three days before announcing his candidacy. In a statement to the Alabama Daily News, his campaign stated that he had been, "inspired to run by the assassination last month of Charlie Kirk.""

He never bothered to vote before running for the office. Wow

Not necessarily.
For example, a company executive would be qualified to run for a governor or lieutenant governor.
Our new city mayor has an extensive business, school board, etc. experience, while it is her first time being elected into an office.
What experience does he has besides playing football?
