I don't agree. I'd extend him too. Nothing too crazy, but enough to show him that we believe in what he's building. I wouldn't up the buyout when fired or anything like that, just a small raise and extension. If all these schools really are after him, we gotta give him something as a gesture, especially when you got former players like Damien Harris going on tv saying all that mess. As long as he continues to recruit this way, it's not that much of a risk of destroying the program or anything like that if it doesn't work out. Patience is what we desperately need imo, and an extension would make that more than possible.

If we extend him AFTER hes said he hasnt talked to any other school and has no interest in any other school it lets me know an agent has gotten his slimy hands into the situation to leverage the university. Play the rumors against Byrne to get DeBoer more $$$ and more security. I hate agents...

Signing him to an extension now would be a head scratcher right now. I see no need to do what FSU did and regret it just because of a rumor.
Thats not to say i dont think he can win here or isnt a good fit. I personally think he really took a big step forward this year.

CKD has done a very good job recruiting and seems to be doing a good job rebuilding his roster after the departures following Saban’s retirement. That is a solid start. The Norvell extension at FSU was a horrible mistake. Gus catches lighting in a bottle with two miracle wins versus UGA and Bama in 2017, makes it to the SECCG. His name gets floated as a candidate at Arkansas and next thing you know he’s signing a 7 year $49 million extension. Three years later Barn boosters are swallowing hard to buy him out.

Beat OU Friday night then show me something against Indiana. Then we can talk extensions.

I’m with you. Am I “off the CKD bandwagon”? No but it goes further than wins and losses to me. I’ve seen far too much inconsistency in the first two years. And in those two years I’ve felt CKD seemed “lost” as to how to respond/fix it. Last year at Oklahoma, versus Michigan in the bowl game and this year after the SECCG.

That said, I certainly am not ready to kick the guy to the curb. I still have the belief that he knows enough about winning football to be successful. Moving on from CKD two years into his tenure would be a big mistake, IMO taking us to a pre-Saban type rebuild for the next guy. However, I’m not of the opinion we should be talking about extensions because his name has been floated at other job openings.

Coach DeBoer’s statement was that he was happy in Tuscaloosa and looks forward to the opportunity on Friday night against Oklahoma in the CFP. But certainly he knows the standards at Alabama set by his predecessors.

CKD has a great opportunity to show us an extension might be warranted starting Friday night.

Like I said I agree he doesn’t deserve a raise, but losing him would be devastating to the point of I believe we need to do what we can to keep him at this point compared to the alternative.

I am concerned his name is always at the top of big time job openings and I don’t believe that is just happen-stance, or because he has done such a great job here.

I get it, but the alternative is to be out of a coach with no real options on the market, besides throwing the kitchen sink at Cignetti. I saw Glenn Schuman 's name floated as a possibility if DeBoer left. That's how bad it would be. Sure, he might turn out to be the next Kirby, but he also might turn out to be the next Muschamp. If Greg Byrne thinks as highly of DeBoer as I do, then I think he knows he has a future legend on his hands. Can't let that go

Regarding an extension, I feel strongly both ways. By any sane measure, it’s too early and results are good but not strong enough to warrant that.

And yeah, the agent’s fingerprints are on this like stink in a chicken coop. That’s an irritating fact, but wanting to show an agent who’s boss is shortsighted and shouldn’t enter into the thought process.

We deal with the coaching market as it is — lots of demand, precious little supply — not as we wish it were.

We live in insane times. I’m reminded of a twist on Derek Bok’s comment on the cost of education: You think DeBoer’s expensive? Try losing him (and Courtney Morgan).

That's another thing too, I didn't even think about. In this day and age, you don't just have to replace the coach anymore. When you hire a coach, you also have to think about the GM he's going to bring with him, unless you're gonna go the Stanford route and just hire a GM separately.

No he hasn’t.

We’ve not won a single thing despite people trying to make ‘Regular Season SEC Champs’ a thing.

This isn’t basketball. No such thing.

We have lost 7 games in two seasons. It will be 8 losses in two seasons unless we win the NC.

You’d have to add up the last FIVE seasons combined of CNS’s “Decline” years to total 8 losses.

I’m not saying there aren’t reasons to explain how or why.

I’m not saying he needs to be fired.

But just a big ‘No’ to a new contract when the current one is already a slightly questionable deal financially.

None of us knows the future, but I really like where we are with CKD.

The program under CNS has regressed. But one thing that CKD has done is he has continued to recruit at the same level of CNS.

In the next couple of years, after HIS recruits are fully throughout the system, we are gonna know if CKD's system will work for us.

After year four or five, we'll know.

FWIW, I'm 100% behind him and I'm rooting he wins a NC at Bama!!!

And that is the root of it that makes me mad. Not that it's DeBoer personally, I actually like the guy and REALLY HOPE the light goes off for him and he becomes the next great coach at Alabama. But I'm sick and tired of agents doing this to football programs. They basically are acting like a cartel.

His current contract more than compensates him for his current accomplishments at Alabama. Nothing against him, but he hasn't done anything on the field wise to merit a raise and an extension in year two. He just hasn't...

I'm willing to let him go just for the number of times he's said 'lower body injury'. That tells me absolutely nothing and can mean just about anything when he says it.

Regardless of the Saban and Bear days, no one is ever going to accept being completely inept at running the football and getting worse in the second half of seasons. The same pattern has happened in his first two years. We've limped across the finish line with several bad losses under our belts. I don't think anyone is going to "get used to" that.

All great coaches have one thing in common. They adapt. We have seen that from CKD to an extent but he is really going to need to make some changes to balance out the attack. Need to be able to run the flipping football and stop the run to be successful in this league.

Especially when *his own* UW teams didn't do that in 2 seasons

He's got to learn how to get physicality and toughness to translate to the field AND then get consistent with it

The bulk of the running game should self-correct if he figures that out

He's got two years of data to prove it's much more likely to "play well and still lose" in the SEC than it is to "play poorly and still win" like it was in the Pac12

Texas A&M gave an extension to Sumlin and regretted it they also gave Fisher an extension and that was a mistake. Some guys can recruit not many can recruit and coach players up. No way should an extension be given right now. Honestly we got lucky on a few games and we hwve not looked good in a lot of games.
