Was the season a success anyway?

Yes, we had a number of big wins over key rivals.

But sweet Jesus, when we lost, we looked incompetent, and those losses bookended the season. If we'd been marginally competitve in the Georgia and Indiana games, I'd be more inclined to call the season a success.
Same here.

When you open with an egg against a cruddy team and then get blown out in the SEC championship game and totally obliterated by Indiana it's hard to feel good about the season.

Not all losses are the same, and the 1-2 record in the post-season was a disaster.

Same here. Even with a competitive hard fought loss, I'd have considered us to have a good, not great season. But, the way we were pounded in Pasadena, well, I'd say a lackluster season is the final grade. Wins in October and November were great, until the SCAR game. We won it, and we beat LSU afterwards, but we looked really shoddy doing it. I actually believe the fear going into the Iron Bowl, as bad as Auburn was, was warranted. We did win that one, which tells me just how pathetic their program has become.

Although internet rumors... It sounds like it is time for Roach to go... And the OL coach...

S&C doesn't necessarily need a clean out, but they need to evaluate and focus on the right things.

The nice thing about the defense is that we had a pretty good unit with some fairly good blue collar guys playing major units. Would be nice to ramp up the DL talent a bit.
I was reading the comments in one of the X posts someone posted in the portal thread and someone stated that we haven’t had a first round defensive lineman since Q Williams. I guess that’s correct; I can’t think of one.

Barrimore? Not sure he was a first rounder, but he plays like one.

Christian Barmore. I think many considered him a first round talent, just very inconsistent for us. Not sure where he was drafted.

I'd love a Quinnen, I think our style of defense under Saban led to us getting very good DL, but sometimes the bigger dawgs went to programs where they were allowed to roam freely over his very strict assignment based ball. Or so I've head over the years... I'm sure opinions vary.

We've just done a poor job evaluating and recruiting on lines from 2020 on... Many busts and failures to develop and guys with a lower ceiling than the stars they brought. I think Smith was a 5* but nobody seems horribly concerned about losing him and he was solid but not a dominator. Payne was a 5* and left for Michigan after several years on the bench for us.

I hope we have a few more good ones on DL and OL come in from the portal... We need them.

People really hate the 4 losses apparently. So if we were an A&M, and played a pretty soft schedule, and lost to our biggest rival, and lost the tiebreaker for the SEC title game, and lost a home playoff game, but only had two losses, do we feel a lot better?

You can’t make these people happy, suddenly losing in the SEC championship would be better than not going at all. Their goalposts stay on wheels so they can move them to keep complaining.

People would feel better if three of our 4 losses weren’t flat embarrassing and pathetic efforts.

Losing to a 7 loss FSU team to start the season is unacceptable.

Getting Blown Out in 2 of the final 3 games is unacceptable.

This isn’t hard.

It’s not just ‘4 losses’.

There is context.

So you believe in moral victories?

I believe in players showing up prepared and giving effort and accounting well for themselves win or lose.

There is a big difference in losing 38-35 and being competitive and losing 38-7 and just not even trying.

It blows my mind that people have an attitude of “well if you can’t win anyway just quit”

Give me a break.

I see your point somewhat but a loss is a loss. Don't know too many folks that look back and remember specific scores but they do recall records. It sucks when we are on the other end of the butt kicking which we are not used to. Better days are ahead for Bama. We won a NC two years after getting pounded by Clemson in 2018.

We could be in a much worse place right now...

I sincerely hope they turn the portal around and pull in some serious back ups and 3* type guys who can provide rotational players, deep depth, and maybe a few gems that really blow up. But they gotta move fast and do more than offering no star TEs from a D2 school...
