They have serious ground to cover all right.

Real Time SEC Portal Team Rankings:

This is just horrific.

It screams that they are getting out worked or the have no idea what they are doing with no real plan....or both.

I guess when things come crumbling down around this staff....they'll just say there's a fine line between getting transfers and not getting transfers.

This staff needs better direction.

We used to look at recruiting rankings to tell who the top teams would be.

Now we can just look at who has the most money coming in from billionaires.

And this is how college football dies, to thunderous applause.
I’ll lose interest in watching sports ran by billionaires who have nothing else better to do than to destroy the last decent thing we had going. It’s like they suck the soul out of everything

No they’ll just tell everyone to “temper their expectations.”

Dunno, but evaluations are the position coaches job, aren't they?
Once camp starts and the season starts, when would a position coach have enough time to do player evaluations? Off the field analysts and recruiting coordinators should be doinng player evaluations once camp and the season starts. A GM generally does player evaluations too along with "scouts" or college footballs equivalent which are the paid off the field staff. The GM should be fully invested in player evaluations and if we're not doing that, that may explain Morgan's "temper your expectations " comment because we struckout on the portal.

So the situation on Smothers.....

He was on campus...enrolled.....I'd assume we tried to get him to sign an agreement and that his agent told him not to because his agent was still testing the market to see what Texas might offer.

After seeing all this nonsense this year, I'd be willing to trade a couple of mediocre years for one year with a great, older team to try to win it all. If Deboer came out and stated that he was building towards that goal then I would be ok with it. Trying to compete in this NIL arms race is a waste of time. Its also destroying what remains of the Bama process/culture that Saban built to be Bama football. Fans in all sports have become impatient so I doubt this method would gain acceptance
I almost wonder if this isn't the plan. I got the impression that the Washington team was very tight and loyal to each other and CKD. I'm wondering if he's hoping to build that culture through recruiting and then fill in as needed. Maybe he believes his players won't leave through the portal. There is something to be said for having a team instead of a group of mercenaries, but I'm not sure how realistic it is for the SEC in today's landscape as far as wins and losses.
