Now if we can snag a couple more OL & a RB, Haynes would be nice to have back
I wouldn't mind him back, I was always big on him but just seems unlikely. He just wasn't getting many carries and the staff would really have to sell him on heavier use. Michigan's other running back ended up with 900 yards so he might want a guarantee he'll be a feature back.

Clark from Texas is the only name I've heard lately. He didn't play a whole lot, recovering from an injury. He did have a good bowl game against Michigan though, it feels like more or less a sidegrade, but if you told me that Smothers money was needed for the offensive line I'd be alright with that.

I saw somewhere that Clark was projected as RB1 next season so he must not have been thrilled about the addition of the other two guys in the RB room.

Some people were expecting Raleek Brown to try to get out of his commitment with the Smothers arrival, and he was another early target for Alabama. It certainly was a matter of not being able to keep 3 RB1s around, heh.

I think the main area where Brown and Smothers really showed another dimension is they both caught over 30 passes, even prorated Clark wasn't catching much (4).

I guess the key here is if Alabama likes what they have and are looking for some value, Clark is basically falling in their lap.

I think we'll get a back, but I would be shocked if it's Haynes. I am fairly certain it was a mutual decision for him to leave. I know he did great in Michigan's scheme, but he doesn't really fit the way we want to run, and we already have a bigger back in Hill. We need a smaller, shiftier guy.

Wow!

Kind of like complaining mid-season that we didn't make the SECCG, when the season isn't even finished yet.......😖

Can we please wait until AFTER all of this to complain/criticize what we did and how we handled it...?!?!😳
Or, just maybe, calling out concerns mid season in regards of team play that might keep us out........
Concerns are valid whether others like it or not.
Now, we aren't gonna know until after all this portal crap is done and we get into spring/fall practice and the season but we want to see results just like everybody else.

Does anyone realize that we are mostly swooning over players that weren't good enough to get recruited by Alabama the first time?
I saw something years ago that said that part of the way the stars work on recruits is it anticipates how soon they'll be ready to contribute.

So a far 5 would be ready in year 1, a 4 star in year 2 and a 3 star in year 3. Now that's not a perfect formula but you get the idea. A 5 star is not automatically better than an experienced 3 star. DeBoer's team in Washington that went to the championship game for example had very few four stars and I'm not sure if they had any 5 stars.

They did however have 26 5th and 6th year seniors, I think about half were 6th year. So they were veterans. While it seems weird, it can be about as valuable to a team to add a solid 3 star that's shown he can contribute as a 5 star is in terms of immediate affect.

Edit: Smothers, the guy Alabama and Texas were fighting over that was the #1 RB in the portal was a 3 star out of high school.

But, he was the "No. 1" three star leaving his team that was horrible. To tell you the truth his size didn't impress. me.
