We Found That More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.

Reporting Highlights

  • Americans Detained: The government doesn’t track how many citizens are held by immigration agents. We found more than 170 cases this year where citizens were detained at raids and protests.
  • Held Incommunicado: More than 20 citizens have reported being held for over a day without being able to call their loved ones or a lawyer. In some cases their families couldn’t find them.
  • Cases Wilted: Agents have arrested about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, for allegedly interfering with or assaulting officers, yet those cases were often dropped.

nothing to see here folks.

Department of Justice prosecutors across the US have suffered a string of embarrassing defeats in their aggressive pursuit of criminal cases against people accused of “assaulting” and “impeding” federal officers.

In recent months, the federal government has relentlessly prosecuted protesters, government critics, immigrants and others arrested during immigration operations, often accusing them of physically attacking officers or interfering with their duties.

But many of those cases have recently been dismissed or ended in not guilty verdicts.

In several high-profile cases, the prosecutions fell apart because they relied on statements by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers that had no supporting evidence or in some instances were proven by video footage to be blatantly false.

At least these are coming to light...

“These men were twice the size of these children,” she said. “It seems like the police made absolutely no effort to de-escalate the situation.”

Outside the police station Saturday morning, speakers said students who were arrested Friday were still in police custody at that time.

A woman who identified herself as Allison at the press conference, but withheld her last name, said her stepdaughter “was wrongfully accused,” and was then assaulted, thrown to the ground and put in a chokehold.
...
Laura Foster, co-founder of Upper Bucks United, a grassroots nonpartisan group affiliated with Indivisible, said she and other community members are questioning the police response.

“It’s been reported to us that the adult seen holding a student in a chokehold was our chief of police,” she said. The Bucks County Courier Times, in an article published Friday, identified the man in the brown jacket as Quakertown Police Chief Scott McElree.

A 10-year-old Minnesota girl has been released from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after a month in detention in Dilley, Texas, school officials said, one of hundreds of children detained at the facility.

Elizabeth Zuna Caisaguano, a fourth-grader, and her mother walked free from the immigration detention center on Tuesday night. Elizabeth and her mother were taken by federal agents on 6 January, the first of five students from the Columbia Heights district to be detained by ICE. The family, originally from Ecuador, has an active asylum case, school officials said.

Former ICE instructor testifies agents were trained to discard constitutional rights

The instructor, who is an attorney, is telling a forum sponsored by Congressional Democrats that the procedures in entering homes are not taught appropriately.

ICE Whistleblower Ryan Schwank just blew the whistle on Donald Trump’s ICE and their illegal actions.

“I watched ICE dismantle the training program… classes that teach the Constitution, our legal system, firearms training, the use of force, lawful arrests, proper detention, and the limits of officers authority. ICE is teaching cadets to violate the Constitution and they were attempting to cloak it in secrecy by demanding that I lie about it.”

Rand Paul begins Markwayne Mullin's confirmation hearing by confronting him about comments Mullin made describing Paul as a "freakin' snake" and "celebrating" Paul getting assaulted.

"I just wonder if someone who applauds violence against their political opponents is the right person to lead an agency that has struggled to accept limits to the proper use of force"

I've been busy today, so I haven't heard the exchange, but I'm hearing this thing turned ugly in a hurry.
