good news is they are giving oats more nil money next year and uk’s coach isn’t looking too hot so maybe they won’t beat us out for a 5 next year
Yeah they are bringing in guys like Linderberg, Mara, Cadeau and Johnson all big transfer type guys. We are left brining in Williamson, Bol Bowen, and few other lower level transfers. If we can't get the money to get some of the better players we'll never be able to compete in this tournament. When Nate said he knew we didn't have the money to compete with Michigan for the UAB player, that says it all.
Playing their type game and with only 4 fouls on them in a half, yes, you're right. Frankly, I've gotten to where I detest watching the college game now, with the money being the lord of the court and the game resembling rugby more than basketball...They were the better team tonight
RTR!
That says it all. Money will determine championships from here on.Yeah they are bringing in guys like Linderberg, Mara, Cadeau and Johnson all big transfer type guys. We are left brining in Williamson, Bol Bowen, and few other lower level transfers.
Agreed especially when you are a 4 or 5 seed. The #1 seeds seem to be on a different level this year. I felt we could have matched up better maybe vs the #2 seeds. Purdue, Houston, Iowa State type teams but not Michigan, Arizona, Florida or Duke.Solid year. Felt like the sweet 16 was the ceiling this year.
Even with less NIL than others, you can still recruit high school and portal guys that are physically stronger than what we’re getting. That’s my point. They may not be the highest rated but they can at least hold up physically for an entire, high-level game.Michigan brought in 4 transfers into this team that are making over 5 million dollars. We don’t have the same budget some teams have.
If you look at the guards, Michigan’s were 20-30 pounds heavier, and managed to stay in front of the lighter Alabama guards defensively. The biggest advantage was dropping their shoulders into our lightweights and moving them without much effort, or fouls being called. Thats where Oats has to adjust his preferred type. Alabama has four players 225 or higher: two of them aren’t playing. Williamson and Sherrell are the only ones. After that I think everyone else is 205 or smaller.Even with less NIL than others, you can still recruit high school and portal guys that are physically stronger than what we’re getting. Not a Coach Cal fan or for that matter Rick Pitino but both have made comments in recent weeks concerning lack of physical maturity of many high school recruits. Pitino stating almost unequivocally he would go to the portal or find the older international player that are bigger, stronger, older and more experienced and you can evaluate them against better competition. Calipari even stated that “they made sure the guys they brought in from high school for next year were physically big and strong enough to play against 24 and 25 year olds they see now.”If you look at the guards, Michigan’s were 20-30 pounds heavier, and managed to stay in front of the lighter Alabama guards defensively. Or; we defend the 3 line well enough that they make 6 less than us. They had uncontested 3's all night; and Michigan took advantage and shot above their standard. This team and any team under Oates is going to be built on hitting 6+ 3 pointers then the other team. Tonight we made 1 more than Michigan. If we make those 6+ more 3s it is a different game. Michigan is a decent three point shooting team on the year but they are not a 50%+ shooting team. They shot over 50% almost the entire game until they missed 3 late. In their 3 looses this season they shot 20-76 from behind the arc in those games. Tonight they shot 13-27. If they shoot well they are the best team in the country imo because they have the other pieces.
Exactly why I hate and do not watch the NBA...Playing their type game and with only 4 fouls on them in a half, yes, you're right. Frankly, I've gotten to where I detest watching the college game now, with the money being the lord of the court and the game resembling rugby more than basketball...
If true, THAT is NOT fairly officiating...I think generally speaking officials call the game more suited to the underdog's strengths in the first half and then call the game in the 2nd half to the favorite's strengths. This is chalked up as a fairly officiated game.
The fact they could match us shot for shot in the 1st half was problematic. And we were not getting balanced scoring from our starting lineup.
We need Amari Allen and Jemison to grow up next year and we need a couple more just like them on the perimeter.
