I agree. It looks like the Democrats were on board with moving forward towards expulsion. That takes a 2/3 vote so it has to be bipartisan. At least she had the good sense to fall on her sword before it went further than it did. The party leadership probably did some serious arm twisting.

Of course, there's (almost) always something devious behind any vote of principle done by a political party (as opposed to a single person). Al Franken's resignation would never have been demanded had Tim Pawlenty still been governor of Minnesota and replacing him. And while they present Swalwell as an issue of principle "as opposed to our opponents," they had every reason to fear (in the era of Fox News) that his sexual assaults would damage the party more AFTER he won a nomination than tossing him now.
That said, if they can control their tendency towards tribalism - particularly while Team Trump is doing the opposite - they could benefit well in the very near future.
Just at least have the cojones to admit boys and former boys have no damned business playing girl's sports, and they'll be fine. (Hint: they won't be fine).

Nothing infuriates an uninformed Congressional Dem more than when they realize they voluntarily triggered a debate with someone who actually knows what they are talking about, reads federal statute and adheres to Supreme Court precedent. Today’s self-implosion by @rosadelauro was quite remarkable to witness. Without apology or regret, I will always adhere to the best available reading of federal statute pursuant to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright.
