Now before the subtle (or not-so-subtle) whataboutism machine cranks up, I'm no fan of Republicans, either. One could honestly see this as a joke at the expense of Democrats and another joke at the expense of Republican voters, who keep falling for exaggerated Republican claims about who they really represent. (Hint: it ain't you. It never has been.) They didn't learn anything when they put their faith in the Bush wing of the party and they damn sure haven't learned anything from the current party. Take from this whatever floats your boat.

Exaggeration is the key to good comedy; that's why this works. Not enough and the joke fails; too much and it stops being a joke and turns into an angry Reddit screed.
