24 team CFP proposal by Big Ten Conf

College football has left me behind. Just as NASCAR did 20 years ago. The NBA did 20 years ago. And the NFL is working hard on it as well.

I approve this message. Never watched NASCAR, quit the NBA in the late 1970's, and don't really give a damn about watching the NFL.

NBA left me behind around 2012. I never cared about the nfl unless I was watching a Bama player or a few years I played fantasy with some friends. College football is ruined from my point of view. I'll always keep up with Bama it's just too ingrained in me as a life long fan that watched from a young age with my die hard fan and alumni dad, but the sport as a whole has no charm left for me.

The thing I loved was how every game really counted. 24 teams in the playoffs makes the regular season less and less important.

Broadcast wise this is impossible. They would have to split the playoff across multiple broadcasters and games would have to be on at the same time. I do not see broadcasters ponying up the necessary money to get in on this and not be the only game on.
That’s the point, more contracts, more baskets for fewer eggs. Make them fight.

I used to watch other teams during cfb season. But I haven't done that in years. Just Bama now and that's it.

I dont know how they will grow TV revenue. Somehow they think allowing SMU and the like into an expanded CFP will do it. But that has already failed miserably. They have to make sure that ND gets in every year because no one will stand up to them on conference affiliation.

Limiting the transfer portal silliness is the only thing that will solidify the base support of college football.

That, and having limits for player payrolls - and enforcing them. Until then, the Mark Cubans of the world can make any team a contender.

Think of all the renegotiated contracts for making the playoff , all of a sudden you're a good coach at number 24.

Like with basketball, all the expansion of playoffs is just pushing me further away. I have already made the decision to not renew YouTube TV in the fall. If the games isn't on regular TV, I won't be watching. If Alabama is in the championship game. I will sign up for a day pass on Sling. The idiots in charge have ruined sports for me. I will maybe keep up with games I am unable to watch thru Tidefans.

Sadly the pro side isn't immune either. NFL and MLB both have expanded playoffs. It has gotten ridiculous.

Yeah I’ll drive over and join you for some Saturday hikes in the fall. 😉

Assuming I get my back and hip issues fixed by them.

Big 10 commish's reasoning for 24 team playoff.
He is either a liar or a moron or both. He cannot possibly believe 24 teams stops the discussion of even more. No matter how many teams you add there will always be somebody that thinks we need more.

Big 10 commish's reasoning for 24 team playoff.
Since the rankings have always included 25 teams you can bet the #25 team will be upset at not making the cut, so probably at that point there would be a push to 32 teams. The madness never stops.

With every expansion of the football playoffs and basketball tourney, bowl games and the NIT drift farther into obscurity.
With that being said, I'm not sure why we have all the hand wringing taking place. Going to 24 teams just replaces meaningless bowl games with contests that actually count for something. Each morning on the way to work, I listen to Mc and Cube and Cole's obsession on talking down the idea of a 24 team playoff. I guess he knows he won't be on the broadcast of the Turnip Green Bowl or something.

I'm not sure ESPN will voluntarily terminate their bowl games. They own half of the non-playoff bowl games. I think they'll continue to scrape the bottom of the barrel to get programming out.
