Good list, but Saban has a job in the NFL and will not be leaving (or fired) for many weeks and that would be too late. What about Greg Schiano (Rutgers), Mark Dantonio (Cincinnati), Paul Johnson (Navy), Dan Hawkins (Boise State), Mike Stoops (U of Arizona), or maybe Gary Pinkel (Mizzou). Any of these would build better programs than what we have now. But it needs to be done now.:BigA:

Why not put this guy in the mix.

Mash Here

I'd be shocked if Mariucci doesn't end up at Michigan State where his best buddy Tom 'to the' Izzo is the head basketball coach.

Tony Franklin has a Rush Propst (which is the correct spelling, BTW, not Probst) type of reputation among high school coaches. Plus, wasn't he on Hal Mumme's staff at Kentucky? I don't think we want anything to do with that...

I'd be interested in Hatcher, but I'd be surprised if Papa Bowden doesn't pick him up.

If the rumors are true about Jimbo Fisher leaving LSU, he'd be an interesting candidate for OC.

In terms of head coach, I can't see Schiano leaving Rutgers this quickly; do we really want to run the wing-T or whatever the deuce Paul Johnson runs at Navy? Saban is intriguing, but I have a hard time believing he'd leave the Dolphins after two seasons. Hawkins is now the HC at Colorado; Pinkel just signed an extension at Mizzou; Stoops hasn't exactly turned Arizona around...

If rumors about Norm Chow and the entire Titans staff getting fired, that would be interesting. I like the idea of going after a Pac-10 guy - they can't play a lick of defense, but they do know how to move the ball around.

If we replace CMS (and I'm still going to be a bit surprised if it goes that route), I think you'll see someone who's more hard-edged than he is. But whoever it is needs to be able to close in recruiting because it's hard to knock Shula in that department.

More "hard-edged" than Shula? Is that possible?

How about Bill Cowher doesn't look like he wants to coach Pittsberg next season maybe he's ready for something new wouldn't hurt to offer or maybe John Gruden.

Paul Johnson is a good coach, he won at Georgia Southern and won big. You have to realize that Navy is not Southern Cal., Johnson wins when he is on level playing field. At Bama he could and would recruit well and beat the big boys!!!!!

It seems like Bill Cowher is about to retire to spend more time with his family. There has been much speculation about this.

RTR forever!

Sounds like a winning combination, but I'm not sure it's possible.

RTR forever!

I don't think there is enough room in BDS for the combined mass of their egos. Saban has a reputation as a difficult coach to work for. Probst is...well...Probst...and Brother needs no more than an introduction. Talk about your need for looking over your shoulder if you are the HC....

First off, I don't think that CMS will be fired - if he makes a good many staff changes and hands over the play-calling duties- but I don't know who would be a sure fire bet to replace him at this point (maybe another reason CMS stays around a little longer).

As for some of the mentioned coaches, I don't see Paul Johnson coaching us. I don't see us going back to the his style of offense and he has a reported issue looming with some of his players at Navy. I see Mariucci going to Michigan State. Butch Davis has reportedly taken the UNC job. Grobe is pretty vanilla and I don't think he would make the kind of impact we would need. As for a 1AA or DII coach, that is taking a big gamble, unless he has a pocket full of championships at that level.

As for a couple of candidates I could see coming here, Gary Patterson at TCU, Dantonio at Cincinnati and Mike Stoops. All 3 of these guys have been around some big time coaches and programs and are fiery competitors who demand dedication and excellence from their players and coaches. I think that any of them would make a big change in the attitude that seems to be appearing among our current staff and players.

Paul Johnson offensive coordinator at Hawaii where he ran one of the most innovative, wide open and high scoring offensive schemes ever seen. Led the nation in passing yards.

Exactly, he's not married to any one offensive philosophy. He adapts his offense to suit his personnel. I'd love to see him at BAMA.

Besides, I'm tired of the Mikes, I'm game to try another Paul.:p_green:

Nick Saban (HC) + Rush Propst (OC) + Joe Kines (DC) = 13th NC

Or even better yet, Joey Jones as OC. If he had had Propst's talent at Mountain Brook, he may have never lost a game. If any of you are unaware of what Joey did at MB with a bunch of spoiled rich boys, you should find a few old game films. His offenses were an amazing thing to watch, and very productive.

RTR!

Having the unfortunate oppurtunity to be on the wrong side of Paul Johnson's first three seasons at Navy, I don't think there is any way we could do better. Navy went 1-11 two years before he came (only beating Army). His first year they destroyed Army. The next year he was headed to a bowl game and hasn't looked back since. He's won three commander and chief's trophies (assuming he beats Army next week) and is 4-0 against his biggest rival. The fact he runs the triple option doesn't scare me bc that's the ONLY offense that has proven successful at the academies in the modern era.

Yeah, because Hoover is in such a low-income neighborhood with no resources whatsoever! Nice generalization! :rolleye2:
