Wouldn't you expect a friend of Coach Saban's to parrot what Coach Saban is saying? What do you expect Chris Landry to say? Something like this:

"Yeah...Coach Saban is trying to assemble a staff to take with him to the University of Alabama when he is finished with the season. He is looking forward to resigning from the Miami Dolphins, getting up to Tuscaloosa, rolling his sleaves up and getting to work. If he can complete the deal in early January then he should be able to complete a strong recruiting class.";)
I agree completely. If Landry is close to Saban, then he probably knows what really is going on with respect to this situation. If so, he would be trying to help Saban squelch talk of a possible departure to Bama.

I could almost believe Landry's comments until he added that "Saban is happy with the team's direction in Miami". Well, the Dolphin's general direction at the moment is downward and towards a second consecutive year without even a chance at a playoff birth.

Nothing is certain with respect to Bama's coaching search, but one thing you can be quite sure of is that Nick Saban is NOT happy with the direction of the Miami Dolphins.

If one statement isn't true, how can you trust the other comments made by Landry?

Prox...If the Fins decide to fire Nick then he will need a place to go and Bama might be it. In hearing Chris's Take on it he felt like there was going to be no firing and with them losing their top qb and other problems Nick's job was safe. I don't think Chris was covering for the Coach, he was just being honest that Coach wanted to stay at Miami and we should focus on someone else. I believe him. And Again he said real nice things about Bama.

Sexton is good at what he does, but he is an agent, and agents use people and football institutions for the benefits of their clients.

Mid year, it was being rumored around the Dolphin headquarters that Saban's control would be "scaled back a bit". This was during the very rough start. So what do you do? You make your client look more appealing, and send out feelers. There is no question that Sexton contacted Alabama on behalf of Saban. He did it for 2 reasons, 1) to make him look more attractive so Saban's control within the Dolphins would stay the same. 2) create a security blanket for him incase the worst happened. So, in short he is/was using Alabama, nothing more, nothing less.

Sexton worked his butt off to get Saban to take the Miami job. It is what Saban told him for years he had always wanted (complete control of a good NFL team). Now, is it in Sexton's best interest to have his client walk away from an unheard of deal (at the time), go to Alabama which could prove to be a major problem for your two other biggest clients (one of which happens to also be your best friend?), and take a paycut for yourself and your client? I don't think so. .

Look for Alabama to make a hard push for Saban Jan 1. Look for Sexton and Saban to turn it down now that Saban's position is secure with the Dolphins. Look for the University then to appear lost, because it doesn't seem they have a true #2 right now.

Just my two cents.

I just can't believe Saban is coming to Bama. He has repeated his denial of interest so many times, I think you finally have to believe him. I'm sure there is such a thing as "coachspeak", but why? Couldn't he just say "I do not and will not respond to any questions about jobs other than the job we are currently trying to do here in Miami." Period. If he truly had an interest in the Alabama job I believe that's the kind of answer he would give. Otherwise he's being duplicitous, and we want a coach that's mre honest than that, don't we?

For the leventeenth time, if Nick Saban says anything other than he is not coming to Alabama before the end of the season it will cost him money.

Reminds me of this:

Lloyd: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary: Well, that's pretty difficult to say.
Lloyd: Hit me with it! I've come a long way to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.

:)
Classic but LLoyd said "So you're telling me theres STILL a chance"
