After the hell that was the 90's, most fans who are probably obnoxious, i.e. students, hadn't been there before. That is where most of the complaints have been lodged. But it has gotten much better. For example, in 2003 during the Auburn game, a security guard i know had to throw out 23 people. In 2005, after Katrina, during the Auburn game he didn't have to throw anyone out.
Skip Bertman has also laid down the law a year or so ago about the fan's behavior.

Titletown, did you have a very bad experience at an LSU vs Bama game?

Yep, in Baton Rouge a number of times. In Atlanta at the SEC championship and Athens visiting my sister during the LSU game. I can't stand them. And each time I venture to that hell hole on earth, I hope that it is a different experience. And each time it is worse.

Maybe you should quit wearing that LSU SUX shirt. ;)

Well, I guess I have a slightly different veiw of LSU fans. I would describe them as the best AND worst that I have seen in the SEC.

If you meet the right group, there aren't any more hospitable fans in the nation. However, I have never had to look far to find some of the most despicable fans in the world wearing purple and gold.

Note to bayoutider: Please tell me you didn't "elf" our new coach and call him Tigerbait. ;)

What do you expect LSU fans to do? Bama is a major rival, Saban can build a program. Should LSU fans jump for joy? Personally I will enjoy the LSU-Bama games even more because of this added dimension. It is very much akin to Florida fans being angry at Spurrier for coming back to the SEC, in their division, to a rival team, except that Saban is only two years removed from LSU and Bama is a lot better than South Carolina.
Oh, I don't know. How about... and mind you, I'm shooting from the hip on this one... how about *NOT* stalking and talking about murdering someone? Maybe it's just me... but that doesn't seem like a healthy response from your fanbase.

I start by saying all LSU fans are not bad. I will say however that LSU has more fans that are disrespectful towards other people than most schools, and the majority are students and maybe thats because they have more students than most universities. Its also true that many LSU fans get a kick out of some of the stuff that happens at games (people being pushed down hills in porta jons and breaking their necks, being ....ed on, hit by beer bottles). I know these things because i live in Louisiana and room with LSU fans. I think the percentages are a little off on the good bad percentages, i think probably most colleges have 15 to 20 percent bad and LSU is probably 30 to 35 which is probably because of the large student population. Alot of fans see LSU fans as a disrespectul group and will continue to see that until their conduct changes for an extended period of time, it takes a while to remove a stain from your record

I'm puzzled by the reaction from LSU fans. He left them 3 years ago and they are just now feeling betrayed? I mean, if he had gone directly from LSU to Bama, thatd be one thing, but he didn't. They've got some anger, but it shouldnt be directed towards Bama. Its not like there was an opening at LSU to fill.
2 years ago, and it just has re-surfaced those feeling. It is nothing towards Alabama - they went out and got the best coach available. Its Saban - he should have thought this thing out. Coach fran was flamed, why can't we have hurt feeling towards Saban. Its nothing personal it is business with Saban.

I guess it would be like you having a spouse leave you for another and then having your brother steal them back from the other. It would be awkward and you would have mixed feelings. Happy that the first lover was jilted also but now they are back in the family.

Here we go again with the "LSU fans are horrible" thread.

Get a grip! Anyone who can't figure out that ALL schools have a healthy contingency of trashy, obnoxious, embarrassing fans hasn't been to too many ballgames.

People generally treat you as you treat them. If they taunt you and you bow up, you're going to have trouble. If they taunt you and you laugh it off and move along to the more hospitable, well-behaved fans, you'll avoid trouble and you just might make some friends out of rivals.

I wish the mods wouldn't allow attacks on rivals who post on our board and are just trying to engage in decent conversation.

As for the idiots who come in swinging, well I expect bayou to show them the virtual door.

amen brother, i joined this board years ago, and i enjoy visiting. i feel as though i have to defend lsu fans when we are put down or our character is attacked - i should learn that responding to these remarks does nothing ,but, keeps the thread going. i should learn to keep my hands in my pockets and look the other way, maybe this could be my new years resolution. maybe i need to grow up.

...Coach fran was flamed, why can't we have hurt feeling towards Saban...
I think all the issues about this thread - bad fans, having a right to vent, etc. -can be summed up by replying to your question.

I don’t have a problem with most LSU folks, but they do seem to be just a little worse than other SEC schools.

Yes, I think LSU fans have a reason to be upset, but it IS 2 years after he left so maybe it's just a wee bit over the top to be THIS upset at THIS point. If I recall, when SOS went back to the Swamp for the UF-USC game, the Gator fans didn't boo or anything...as a matter of fact they gave him a nice classy round of applause.

Now as for Fran, yes he was flamed harshly, but no one wanted to stalk him and literally kill him...and we had our words right after the fact, not two years later. It's crazy enough to "vent" with a death threat, it's even crazier two years after he left.

So to bring this full circle, yes all teams have crazy trashy fans, but LSU seems to take it just a step further...and the severity of these comments kinda hit at the heart of that issue.

Saban basically pulled a Spurrier, except Saban didn't lay off for a year between the NFL and college.

Spurrier left Florida for the Redskins. He tried it for a couple of seasons, and after "retiring" for a year, went to South Carolina.

Was there bad blood from Florida fans? Yeah, to some degree. But, it made that game more interesting, as I think this will make the Bama/LSU game more interesting.

Honestly, I can't blame LSU fans for being a little miffed. but I would have to say that the Dolphin fans have a little more right to be miffed than Tigre fans. Unlike Franchione, at least Saban didn't jump directly from LSU to Bama. We stole Saban from the Fins, not LSU.

So, hopefully, there won't be too many hard feelings.

How much money would you bet, for example, Les Miles got caught a la MP and got fired and Saban decided to pack up and head back to Baton Rouge, that all these Saban haters would turn into major gluteus maximus kissers.

Well, I guess it's my turn for 2 cents. Being born and raised in Baton Rouge for 22 years, I have seen first hand the Tiger fans. I'll admit, most of them, other than the famous "tiger bait" chants, are great. Afterall, try being raised there being a TIDE fan your whole life! As for the rude, obnoxious ones, they are the younger crowds who don't go to the games for the great SEC football, they have their own agendas. I now live in Kenner, LA, and still deal with the Tiger fans. And it is the same here. My in-laws are HUGE tiger fans, and we all enjoy the same thing, SEC football. I can understand the disgust on how Saban left LSU and somehow ends up in the same conference, but it will make for more interesting rivalry. Let me end by saying this,

THIS TIDE FAN FROM TIGERLAND WILL ALWAYS BE SHOUTING ROLL TIDE ROLL!!:BigA:

There's no denying LSU is one dang good program right now but it hasn't always been that way and it's not promised to last. Be proud of it, enjoy it, you've had some great recent success to add to your history and tradition. But as many fans from all schools need to do, "Act like you've been there before". ;)
Because of CNS. I cannot recall LSU making headlines landing top-notch recruits under the CLM regime. That's not to say that 4 & 5 star recruits do not become stand outs and contribute greatly to their programs. But come on, CLM left a, at the time, mediocre OSU program (granted recent events) to bask in the fruits of someone elses labor. All I have to say to LSU fans is enjoy your glory with another mans team under a coach that, prior to his arrival in BR, had a career W-L record of 28-21 (57.1%) in a fledgling Big 12 conference with two real exceptions. The following from CLM bio must have been what solidified his hiring at LSU, and I quote "Miles led Oklahoma State to a four-year record of 28-21 for a winning percentage of 57.1, the best career winning percentage of an OSU coach since Jim Lookabaugh ended his career in Stillwater in 1949." :eek2: Congrats to CLM and best of luck to LSU in the future!

And I will contend that you know absolutely nothing. I am sorry that being drunk at a football game offends you so much.
I've found that going to LSU game sober just don't work. I've been to at least 10 Bama-LSU games at Tiger Stadium and found out that several strong drinks before entering stadium usually prevented me from a fight. I have some close LSU friends who I sit with and they don't make the situation easy for me. They think it's funny that I have to endure the other drunks.
