JC prospect originally from the State of Washington. Chose Ole Miss over Cal, IaState, MichSt, WashSt. So, Ole Miss, who has never recruited nationally, is all of a sudden plucking players off the West Coast and stealing them from schools like Cal, USC, and others. Something just doesn't add up here.

The west coast makes sense to me, that's where Coach Caveman used to live and recruit heavily, now if he suddenly had some kind of huge swing in recruts coming from the midwest, or the northeast, then we might have a little bit more to be curious about

I don't know about that. We're talking about Ole Miss here. These guys are choosing Ole Miss over big time programs in their area. It's not like Ole Miss is a traditional power house, and it's not easy to get a kid to come all the way across the country to play in the State of Mississippi when there are programs like USC, Cal, and Nebraska knocking on the door. I could understand it if they picked up a recruit or two from there every now and then, but to get so many in one year, after you just finished 3-8 and 4-8 the last two years? Sorry, I don't see it.

Its really not too strange, just look, every single player he got this year from the west coast all came out of JUCO. And it's not like he's getting the best of the best, most of them were 3 star players. Some of the guys were choosing between Baylor and Nebraska (halfway across the country) and Tulsa and Kentucky (also halfway across the country.) He lived on the West Coast for a number of years. If he suddenly started getting these 4 and 5 star recruits straight out of high school, then we'd have some news on our hands, but he lands a couple of 3 star JUCO players from California and you think that means he MUST be breaking some rules? eh . . .

A couple of those JUCO guys out of California are 4 star players. The WR they got over there is the #1 JUCO WR in the country. He picked Ole Miss over Cal, USC, and others.

These so-called "connections" that Coach Ogre has with west coach recruits must have something to do with his stint at Southern California; wasn't he a defensive coordinator for the Trojans?

Doesn't that make like 100 commitments? I mean, really. How many scholarships do they have to ive out? Attrition or not, they really need to quit telling kids they have room when they really don't. Oversigning is one thing, but geez!!

Don't remember his exact position, but he was considered a heck of a recruiter. Only makes sense he would be able to pull from there. Kinda like CNS in LA. JMO.

According to Wikipedia, he wore several hats at USC.

Before being hired by Ole Miss, he was the defensive line coach and assistant head coach for the University of Southern California (USC) where played a key role in Pete Carroll's Trojans winning the national championship in 2004. He joined the USC staff in January of 1998, took on the added responsibility of recruiting coordinator for the Trojans in 2001, and was then named assistant head coach in 2003.

I am not knocking the education system in California but they do rank around 40th. The NEA ranks California 40th only because of the number of kids who help balance out the grading. I will explain. If California had the population of Arkansas or Mississippi they would be dead last in education. -Mike Mikki NEA former Director. The current grading of each state changes in 2009 and states like New York, California, Michgian, and others with large populations will be graded evenly by raw score and not per capita. All accredited schools will be included. To include the Christian Schools, Magnet School, and others that were graded separately leaving the south to set at the bottom of the rankings. The south has a lot less Magnet Schools than other areas of the country. By including all accredited schools this will change state rankings drastically. Califorina is fighting like crazy to stop this. Why. 1 of 15 students who leave school or graduate H.S. are functionally illiterate. This would expose the California nightmare as some teachers refer to it.

Bringing in players from that area of the country is risky. The NCAA has a difficult time with CA due to the grading cruve.

During my time in San Diego NTC/RTC training center (1978) I found 20 percent of all recruits from California were put into remedial reading classes before they were allowed to resume recruit training. Most of the recruits appreciated my help but several were embarrassed by having a young Alabama Sailor teaching them how to read and write. I was called the Academic Review Officer. Of the 20 percent (CA recruits) that came in, only eight percent graduated and completed USN Training both on the RTC/NTC side of the house. Recruit Training/Navy Training Command (A-School).

So if someone tells you the south is ranked low on the eduation food chain just wait until 2009 and watch all the excuses began. Will this effect college football. Oh Yes. :BigA:
The driving force is the National Education Administration. This has been in the works for sometime. It appears all the road blocks are losing steam.
