How do y'all think Bama matchs up with Auburn

I'll answer this question.

Personally I feel as though we match up really well with Auburn. If you look at the common teams we've played and use that to compare, Bama played each team better than Auburn. Both of us should have beaten LSU but it took Georgia OT to beat Bama and they slammed Auburn. Against MSU they flat out beat Auburn, while Bama beat Bama.

Assuming that our offense actually plays in the game, we should not only be a slight favorite (which we won't) but we should beat them by 6 to 10 points. Auburn has a very one dimensional offense and at least to date hasn't thrown the ball very well at all. If we force them to beat us on the ground, they'll move the ball but not put it in the end zone very often. Bama on the other hand can throw it around and while Auburn has a FANTASTIC rush defense they can be beaten through the air. Assuming we have Coffee back and also assuming that JJ gets some carries this weekend and proves himself, Bama shoudl be able to move the ball enough to open up the passing game.

I look for this game to be fairly low scoring with Bama on top...

Bama 23
Auburn 17

If Bama got a few turn overs and our "O" is really working ala UT, we could put one heck of a butt stomping on them. I don't see it happening but it would be FANTASTIC if it did!

Auburn beat themselves... As did Kentucky. When you turn the ball over 4+ times in a game, that is beating yourself and giving the game to the other team. You gotta hand it to MSU though, they have won 3 out of 3 big games in which the opponent gave it to them.

Paint me pessimist on this one boys but it doesn't matter how we "match up" against Auburn I got a feeling Auburn takes six in a row and takes it going away. Our qb play has been average to good in TWO games all season. LSU laid the blue print of how to rattle our offense. MSU followed it up the following week and got a win out of it. Tubbs will do the same thing.

These are two very equal but very different teams.

Auburn needs to keep it low-scoring and rely on their running backs to chew up yards while their defense gets sacks because they can't rely on Cox to win games.

Alabama needs a high scoring game with both teams tossing it all over the field so that our WR's can score while our d-backs create turnovers.

Bama will win if both teams combined score more than about 45 points. Auburn will probably win a low scoring game.

Auburn reminds me of MSU. They both seem to have a fairly good running game and defense. One could argue that Alabama should have beaten (without the turnovers) MSU 12-3. So, I tend to believe that Bama could beat Auburn in a low scoring game. I think Bama's defense played well against MSU and has been improving game by game (especially against the run). The Bama defense just might dominate this game.

I think we match up pretty well against Auburn. If we can get pressure on Cox and keep Groves from getting to Wilson, then I think we stand a great chance. The difficult part will be keeping Groves out of the backfield.

Bama's defense will match up well against Auburn's offense. Also, they've been fairly consistent throughout the year. Bama's offense is pretty one-dimensional. Running has been poor against good defensive lines generally. So the game again rests on the shoulders of JPW. If he shows a quick release and spreads it around in the 1st quarter, then they'll be cryin' on the plains. Of course, if he carries over from MSU, then they won't be able to tally their wins until next semester -- when they learn to count fingers on the other hand.

I think you pretty much nailed it. This game will be JPW's to win or lose since I think it will take a solid passing game to beat Auburn. I just can't see us beating them on the ground. What's funny though is Auburn will probably go completly opposite of this approach. I look for them to take the game away from Cox and force us to shut down their run and then maybe dink us with the short stuff. I doubt Auburn can torch our Secondary. It would also be nice to continue the trend of good Special Teams play and Turnovers because without them, we will struggle.

Basically, I think this game has way to many variables to predict an outcome since nobody knows which team will show up. If the Bama team that played UT shows up and we can sling it at will, Bama will win this game going away. However, if the Bama team that played State comes to play, well Auburn wins by 10.

Re: How do y'all think Bama matches up with Auburn

I think Auburn has the motivation factor. Somehow they don't write us down as a win while we do them and they nearly always have the mental edge. They're kicked our butts and we whine about why.
I think our defense will slow their offense and vice versa. Turnovers will probably determine the outcome. Their weak long ball game should allow us to pack the line of scrimmage and contain their running game. Our Long ball game could cause problems for Auburn depending upon which offense shows up for Bama. I don't think we will be able to run on Auburn as their defense is too good for our running game.
A good game plan and good execution can make a huge difference. Let's hope we are ready in all facets come Iron Bowl time.

IMO, these are the things we MUST do to win. If we fail at either, we lose. Something else on the motivation factor mentioned in a prior post. Not a single player on this team has ever beaten Barn, so they don't know "how" to beat barn, just like no barn players know "how" to lose to Bama. Thats the thing about these dang streaks. It's as much mental as it is physical. While i know CPB had the superior teams in the 70's, barn had already lost most of those games before they ever stepped on the field because they didn't think they was supposed to beat Bama or know "how" to beat Bama (other than blocking punts). Once the streak ended, the series was back and forth for years, other that the Curry regime. The main point I'm trying to get at is that the previous staff IMO was not very good motivators. CNS has shown that he can motivate these players to play above their heads and that may well be the "mental" factor that we have been missing for several years. RTR

If we keep a back in the backfield to help protect JPW, we will win. We need to throw some short passes to the TE and running backs. Maybe a running back pass. Also, if we can get pressure on Cox, he will throw interceptions.

This is the SEC, so I would have to favor the team with the better defense and running game, which would be Auburn. Then again, it is the Iron Bowl where anything can happen and usually does. I would have to favor Auburn, but I sure hope we can find a way to win. I think we will need a good start and very few, if any, mistakes to have a chance to win.

Let's first take care of the Warhawks before we focus on the Warchickens.

IMO, they both are as evenly matched as they have been in past years.

Whether we win or not depended upon what kind of a day JPW has, if the defense can pressure Cox, and whether the defense can stop the short, out passing attack that Auburn like to use.

I wouldn't bet my rent (or mortgage) money on the game.

the barn is not that much better than us...if JPW keeps his cool and doesn't do anything stupid, we win !

all in all...close game...Coach Saban will be the difference maker...Bama pulls it out

how-bout 17-16...wouldn't that be poetic justice...

IMO JPW MUST be mistake free AND we have to have something resembling a consistient running game to have a chance. If and this is a big IF... we do the above and the defense plays lights out we win 17-10.
