Re: Can someone confirm: Fanuzzi cannot redshirt

My understanding is that it is no more than 20% of the regularly scheduled games (rounded up) and that the player may not have participated in any game beyond the first half of the season. That would mean not beyond game 6, which would mean that participation in any 2.4 games(rounded up to 3) prior to and including Houston would still be eligible for a medical redshirt.

It is 30%.

Re: Can someone confirm: Fanuzzi cannot redshirt

I knew it used to be 20%. Didn't realize it had changed. Is there a searchable database of NCAA rules. I found the NCAA rules and bylaws; however, I didn't find a searchable index and there are so many pages, I couldn't narrow it down to where to look for the info.

I don't know all the rules, but i do know that CNS has documented the injuries of several players and will petition the NCAA for medical redshirts.

From a technical standpoint, the request goes to the SEC office. The NCAA is only involved if the SEC turns down a request and an appeal is needed.

Re: Can someone confirm: Fanuzzi cannot redshirt

What they are trying to do is make sure that this does not count as one of the 4 seasons in which they can play.
Right. The post I replied to was suggesting a "medical" redshirt + a regular redshirt near the end. That would require the 6th year special waiver. Stephen323 made similar point.

Most abused rule ever. Like I care...
You're right about that. The Aubs have done this so much their fan base snickers about it.

As detail-oriented as he is, I'll be flabbergasted if Saban irretreivably burned a redshirt on Fanuzzi or any of the OL. I'm not sure on the DL, though. I seem to remember some unfamiliar numbers out on the field in later games. But my memory is getting increasingly unreliable. So as I said, I'm just not sure.

Re: Can someone confirm: Fanuzzi cannot redshirt

Auburn has been getting away w/playing kids in multiple games then putting the med-redshirt onto it's players for a couple of decades now ;) . . . I have heard Fanuzzi was in fact banged up in a practice or two so I see no reason why NS & staff wouldn't at least attempt to apply this situation to NF in order to regain a year of eligibility - especially being that he played a grand total of about the last 4 minutes in the opening game of the year against WCU. I trust this staff will use every legal method in the book for righting this ship. RTR

Nick Fanuzzi

Does anyone have his stats from his senior year of high school? Does anyone know why he was kind of lowly rated? Do you guys think he'll see some playing time next year? Thanks.

dont know if there's anything to it, but some of my tuscaloosa contacts are telling me that NF has gotten the 'wink and nod' from coaches and that GM is contemplating a transfer. not trying to start rumors, but that IS what i am hearing from down there...

I hope GM is not serious. Never know when injuries or whatever can occur and put him at the helm.

Re: Nick Fanuzzi

Here are a couple of retrospective looks at Nick Fanuzzi from April 04, 2006 when he was committed to the Canes and a QB prospect evaluation from ESPN.

Nick Fanuzzi Unfiltered
Think of Nick Fanuzzi as the big fish that bought the bait.

That's the only way to explain how he became the Hurricanes second commitment of the 2007 signing class in March.

From what I’m hearing UM’s coaches scouted, targeted and offered a handful of quarterbacks they felt fit their new offense. They told each whoever was the first to commit would be the only quarterback offered a scholarship in what's expected to be a very small signing class.
ESPN Football Recruit Tracker; Nick Fanuzzi
Evaluation: Fanuzzi grows on you the more you watch him. Although his methods and technique as a passer may be a bit unorthodox, he is a competitor and very productive as a pocket passer who can make plays on the move. He has good size and very good arm strength. Plays in a version of the spread and works primarily out of the shotgun. He is balanced within the pocket and does an excellent job surveying the field. He has a swagger about him that says he can't be beat. Shows presence for the rush, can escape and shows good initial burst to avoid and get on the perimeter. Release is quick -- almost whip-like -- and reminds us a little of Kurt Warner in terms of how he carries and delivers the ball. He shows nice velocity on short-to-intermediate throws and has enough zip to fit the ball into tight spots. Shows nice touch on the deep ball. He can really throw it on the run. Shows power and RPMs and can throw across his body. He can run the option, make people miss and show very good speed for the position, but he is a passer first. We are not quite sure he has a great arm. Release and velocity make his arm look stronger. May not consistently be able to drive the ball vertically. Would like to see him raise the ball to chest level in the pocket -- carries it very low. Tends to cup the ball with palm. Need to see him work from under center and drop while going through progressions -- this is one of the problems of the spread offense. Overall, Fanuzzi is a gunslinger with confidence and some real upside to develop into a fine all-around quarterback at the next level.

Re: Nick Fanuzzi

Thanks guys, I think this kid is gonna be a good one, I know he wasn't very highly rated, but we need a guy that can step up and maybe he is the one to do it if Star isn't ready next year.

Yep, the Scout.com insider's board has been talking about this very thing. They say where there's smoke, there's fire....and it is also being said that CNS recognizes that CMA's offense hasn't been on display much this season and wants to reverse that. But, but, but...we need a mobile QB to make it work and he is well aware of this as well.
