LSU allows Michigan to talk with Miles!!!

I wonder if this makes LSU feel like the ugly sister. CLM leaves, Pelini bolts and LSU could be headed for mediocrity.
don't count on the mediocrity. we won't win 11 games everyear, but we'll be around.

Agreed... enough good has happened to LSU over the years to keep it in the upper echelon of programs.
The Bama program and its' travails should make everyone see how close mediocrity can be.
Instability in the coaching ranks is killer.

for most of my life (starting in the 1960's) that was LSU football, won't win but an occational championship (SEC, MNC) but will have good solid seasons.....except for the dark years (Hallman). If they don't get a great coach they won't fall off the face of the earth but will be around.
There's a lot of talent in that state and they'll get the lion's share every year. IF they have to reload with a new coach, they know, as well as we do, that it's a set-back...
Yes and an hour later he had another PC declining any interest i n the Mich. job.

I agree, as far as how much of a setback, I guess who the coach is will go a long way to deciding that.
Yeah, there's no doubt some coaches would bridge a transition a lot better than others. The problem, as both our schools have found out the hard way, is that prospects have to back up and re-examine their options. In our case, that meant that AU, having stability, got recruits on the rebound which they would not have convinced to come to AU under other circumstances. The problem may be less in LA, because of the monopoly position of LSU...
Even with a VERY good coach coming in, you can usually expect a setback for at least a year or 2, mainly due to recruits changing decisions, implementing new offenses and defenses, adjustments in personel, etc. This is not always the case, but it usually is. However , the better the incoming coach, the easier and sooner the transition/setback period is over.
Seems to be consensus that a coaching change automatically brings a setback to a program.Yet as terrible as Miles is in the eyes of most, there wasn't a setback when he replaced Saban at LSU. (Not smacking, just sayin'...at least the wins haven't stopped...and the championship may come this weekend) There are several examples that show this isn't always the case...and several that show it sometimes IS the case. Just depends on the coach, yes...but moreso, the state of the program, IMHO. LSU's program is strong...as it was when CNS left.
As far as Del Rio goes, I have learned that his wife is from Lafayette...her family is there. That could be an issue that he would consider. (let it be known that I don't WANT Del Rio...I brought him up because of 'hints' given by another poster about someone who wanted the job, but that LSU didn't necessarily want)
As far as if Miles does NOT go to UM, at that point, I personally believe he will stay at LSU for quite some time. Not saying he ain't going to UM...but if he doesn't...

If he had not played, coached, or met his wife at Michigan then I would say he would still be at LSU but he did play, coach, and meet his wife there.
Just so we're straight...I don't DISagree with you. I said IF Miles does not go to UM. A week ago, I didn't think he was going...because I didn't think UM wanted him. Now, not so sure about that.
I'm still not so sure myself. I think regardless of whether Michigan really wants to hire him or not, they're still going to interview him. I think that interview will go a long way in deciding if Michigan will hire him. It's possible that he could say a couple of things that would make them wary of hiring him. JMO
Fishhead, I don't DISagree that if he stays he will be there a long time but in this day and time when the announcement of a official talking between a school and a coach take place, it's a done deal. Les could pull a RR but I doubt it. If Les was an assistant coach then a talking means just that. Michigan is a strong pull for Les.
