Sure...but it wont happen. Dont bet your money on it...

If anyone wants to bet that Bama WONT be out on Thursday, I'm your guy just PM me. Bet!
I've said for a very long time that if anyone wants to get rich then always bet against me. That's one big reason I don't gamble. In this case, I agree with you so I'll give you my "vote of confidence". :eek2:

Now with the talent coming back next year(if everyone comes back), do you believe it is enough to win a national championship? (NOT saying they will even if Gottfried is gone, just asking if you think they are capable.)

I honestly think they are capable to go to the Final Four with the talent next year.

Now ask yourself Do you think they will even make the sweet sixteen with that talent with Gottfried as head coach? My guess is NO

So with this being said why would anybody settle for less especially since the guy is making mega bucks to coach this team. I was a CMG supporter up until today when they lost to a undermanned AU team. It was just awful to watch this game. It is time to cut the losses and seperate ways and maybe we can get someone to come and devolop these players and just maybe pull what Tubby Smith did at kentucky in 1998 in his first year or at least turn the program around like Bruce Pearl is doing up at UT.

Sorry for venting:biggrin:

I like CMG and I believe he will be back next season. Wouldn't it be neat if Bama could with the SEC Tournament! That would make for an interesting event.
Vinny, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no way this team, with the present coaching staff, has a chance of winning the SEC in 08 or 09. If you really believe it could happen, well, you are going to get your spirits crushed.

Don't forget, we are in the same league with the high flying Vols; and if this is not enough, Florida and Kentucky have programs that are light years ahead of ours.

I see that there is no "Post-Game Thoughts" thread this week. In fact, there is very little being said on this board. I think what is being said means less than what's not. Here we are nearing the end of conference play, right when there would normally be several threads discussing the different aspects of our basketball program. Yet the greatest majority of sports posts are still on the football board. What's most telling is that no one needs ask why, and I think that in itself speaks volumes. :banghead:

Most fans have checked out entirely on the basketball team and are only thinking about A-Day.
There is no doubt amoung the fans that CMG has got the BBall program on the fast track to no where.I know the argument that the people with power at UA don't see it that way,or do they even care! If the team continues to play with poor fundamentals, and little effort on D how long can they let this ride! IMO,CMG should have been let go at least last year, but I don't have a say.

The LSU game away will have a impact on CMG fiture because they will be playing for 5th and 6th place in the West if Bama were to finish last in said division then pressure would grow for CMG to go.

I really don't think it matters much where Bama ends up at the end of the season. CMG has one more year, at least. The Steele brothers are talented enough to make anyone look good, and assuming everyone else who can come back does, the team will be very talented.

He will get the opportunity to show what he can do with fully loaded, talented team.

A talented team without good coaching won't get it done either. 09 will be more of the same...a waste of time and money.:p_blank:

Also, wouldn't you say that part of a head coach's job is to make sure that his team is talented, especially after 10 years on the job? I know I sound like a broken record, but it is only because Steele was hurt last year that he would have been here this year or next, and that should have been anticipated. What would his excuse be if Steele had played last year and gone on to the NBA as everybody expected? What will his excuse be when Steele, Hendrix (if he even comes back), and JaMychal Green all leave after next season?

On a different note, I was reading a Sports Illustrated article on the so-called "Dribble-Drive Motion" offense now in vogue; it is used by MEmphis among many others. Larry Brown was talking about how it had changed how he thought about some things that he had learned from Henry Iba and Dean Smith, and he said something to the effect that everybody at one time was using the high post offense and 2-2-1 press because Coach Wooden had so much success with it, but its time has pretty much passed.

I know we have (finally) gotten away from the HP as our dominant offensive set, and we don't even come close to having a point guard capable of running the Memphis offense, but isn't it interesting to hear another coach's perspective on what we were once stubbornly clinging to?

we can discuss the problems with Bama's poor offensive play or style, but the most troubling thing I have noticed is the sorry D played by Bama. IMO,the major reason everyone lights it up on the 3's is we don't guard anybody.

Bingo.

How many wide open looks from the 3 line did the Aubies have yesterday?

Got me pegged without doubt. Over the past few seasons, I have gotten to the point that I cannot even get excited about basketball any more. When your lover continually gilts you for another guy, it's hard to keep coming back to get gilted again. Regardless of how many games that I saw hope, I would always realize that inevitably my bubble would be burst and we would see the same apathetic, unorganized play on the court. No matter the players, it has been the same verse in the same song. And guys, when that's true, it's not talent... it's coaching. Maybe more than anything else, the article heading on Scout's review of Sunday's game tells the tale. Kudos to Kirk McNair for the courage to voice what so many of us feel right now.

"Mark Gottfried says after almost every Alabama basketball loss that he was pleased with his team’s effort and that the other team made its field goals despite Bama players playing good defense. Conceding that Gottfried knows more about basketball than fans, almost no one who watches the Tide agrees with the coach’s assessment."

I hate to say it, but me too. And that's just sad. We were once a proud program under CM and Wimp.

You know that Peanuts cartoon where Charlie Brown runs up to the football to kick it, and every time he does, Lucy pulls the ball out and Charlie falls on his backside? Not just once or twice, but EVERY time? Well, there ya go.
