The SEC is about to make one of the biggest decisions in its 75-year history. Simply put: Given the enormous popularity of its sports programs has the time come for the conference to create its own television network?

Personally, I'm for it. If it happens, somebody should get credit.

A. Know the names of the players.

I'm against it. I see no point in having it. The SEC is on tv every weekend, and if production quality will be comparable to that crap they put on PPV, I don't want the rest of the nation to see it.

As long as I'm able to pick up SEC TV on Dish Network, I'm all for it. One thing they need to consider is that if they were to go with CSS, many satellite customers would not pick up the network, since you don't pick up CSS on Dish or Direct TV.

I oppose. I dont want to be regionalized like the Big Ten. Show us everywhere. I am willing to bet there would still be black outs for any home games that would normally be pay per view.

I understand your concern but I don't think it would be structured like that. I live in Hoover, AL and get the Big Ten channel via Directv. It's just another game I can watch along with games on CBS, ABC or ESPN. I'm pretty sure that games on Raycom are regional to the southeast though. I have noticed that the Big Ten network shows the previous seasons games during the off season which is cool.

I have no problem with it as long as ESPN and CBS get their first picks of games (as many as they want to broadcast). And they have a deal with ESPN to include live SEC football games in the Gameplan package. It would really annoy me if I had to pay $100 per year for Gameplan and I didn't get every single Bama game.

How do you decide how much airtime to give the various schools and the various sports? How do you decide which football games to air? Who gets first pick of what games? The Big 10 failed to sort these sorts of things out and it has been a disaster. I'm against any kind of network that causes me to have to pay watch a game on TV.

The big thing the SEC must do before this launches is to work some type of an agreement with cable companies. The Big 10 foolishly assumed their network would just pop up on the general cable line-up, while every cable company basically told them they would be put on a premium sports tier.

I think the biggest thing, though, in regards to SEC Television in the future is the possibility that the FOX Network wants the SEC when the next contract is up for negotiations. I've always said the SEC has the best TV deal next to Notre Dame, and getting on FOX would only enhance that.

I'm super jealous of the Big10 and their all HD all the time network. In the fall EVERY SINGLE GAME IS FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE on the Big 10 network and their plethora of sub-channels. Basically every game that isn't on ABC or ESPN is on the Big 10 network.

As long as it's better than JP/LF/Raycom, or whatever the Hades they call themselves, now.

We need SEC-TV not SCTV (for the member of the OFC who remember that show). I'm ready for a network to broadcast our games without making me laugh or get aggravated.

I could handle that. To add insult to injury,the video/audio for the PPV games was high school quality at best. I think they're using video from the space station the camera is so far away from the action. And don't get me started on the commentators.

I absolutely agree. I'm all for it, the more SEC sports on the tube the better IMO.

Out of the 12 SEC teams, virtually all would be playing on the same day. Even if every SEC team were playing another SEC team on a given Saturday, there would still be 6 games being played on the same day and some with times overlapping that of other games. They can't be at all of them so how would they determine which games to attend and broadcast?

Living here in Columbus, OH... I've seen firsthand what a disaster the Big 10 Network has been. Football games that were televised for free in the area, much like the JP errr, Lincoln Financial games down south.... were now on the Big 10 network. It still isn't on all the cable networks here which means if you are in on of the places that doesn't get it, lots of luck. Hope you know friend that does or like going to sports bars.

It's just another way to make it difficult for a fan to watch the game.
